Hi guys, some advice please... i've recently started seeing other options instead of using sawdust on people pictures of their cages and hutches.

Perhaps I'm still in the dark ages when it comes to basic bedding but if anyone could let me know what product this is as its new to me (it almost looks like food pelets), and if it could benefit my piggies it would be helpful to know.
Thanks ☺

I would advise you look at this thread 1st

Bedding For Guinea Pigs - Overview

There are lots of bedding around. If you gave a Kennelgate pet stores near you - or an equine supplier, Aubiose may be a good choice ....

Is the one that looks like pellets grey in colour ?

hi, l use green backed vet bed, it soaks up all the wee into the news paper put underneeth it .
all you need to when cleaning is shake off any debris, the hose id down (not realy nessesery)
then pop it into the washing machine at 40 to 60 deg on a normal wash
once it is spun , it dries indoors over a whashing maiden in around 24 hours

I don't think we've got any kennelgate stores in West Yorkshire unfortunately - do let me know if you find one. W.Yorks is massive but if you are sort of in the South-Easterly bit I can recommend a supplier of Aubiose and Easibed. They also sell hay bales but I've not looked at the hay to be honest so don't know if it's any good or not.

Yes my supplier is an equine supplier local to me. PiggyOwner found a supplier closer to her which was cheaper than mine and which I can use when I happen to be travelling that way but it's not so much cheaper as to really justify a special trip just for Aubiose. As a rough guide, 20kg of Aubiose costs around £11 and 20kg of Easibed costs around £8. I like both, not everyone does. The Easibed seems a little easier to clean out for me personally given the way I use it (only the coated hutch floor below it in the boys set up).

I use hemp bedding (Aubiose if I can get it) with a layer of hay on top. I sometimes put megazorb on top of a deep layer of hemp for a fairly easy care and long lasting bed if I know I'm not going to have as much time for a couple of days.

@PiggySmitten - are you anywhere near Leeds in West Yorkshire? I can't find Aubiose! I get a hemp equivalent and hay (very good hay :D) from a local equine supplier but I'd like Aubiose back.

I use Aubiose and find it fab (only been on it a few months). My local farm shop sells horse food, horse bedding, as well as cat and dog and sawdust for small animals. I pay around £10 for 20kg but it is slightly cheaper if I buy 3 or more lots in one go (so the OH needs to sort me some space out in the garage).

I use Aubiose for my hutches...6 feet,it is very absorbant,it costs 9.50 pounds from local horse feed/farm shop.it can sometimes get stuck to boys bits,so check there nether regions daily!but a 20 kg bag lasts 8 changes of 6 feet hutches, both hutches have 4 cavies in.
