Hello, I recently discovered an inky cap mushroom in my guinea pigs cage after feeding her bell peppers a few days ago, they’re was about 6 mushrooms growing right next to her water bottle, I removed it immediately and am about to clean her cage. Is this poisonous to guinea pigs and to humans or will we be fine?

Did your piggy eat any of the mushroom.
How do they seem in themselves - still eating, pooping etc.

It would be best to keep a very close eye on them for a few days, and of course give the cage a thorough cleaning.
If you are getting damp patches around the water bottle maybe try placing an extra pad there which you can replace daily to prevent this in the future.

She’s still being herself, and didn’t seem interested in the mushroom. I didn’t see any bites in it. I will keep an eye on her and keep you updated.

Hi there! I discovered this mushroom in my guinea pigs cage tonight. May I ask, was your piggy okay? Thank you

The original poster hasn’t been on the forum since last April so we don’t have any updates.
The best thing would be to see a vet is you are concerned your piggy has eaten something

Does the mushroom have any obvious tooth marks?
Has your guinea pig been unlike their usual selves? Eating and drinking and being as active as usual?
Booking an appointment at an exotic vet for the first available slot is a good idea if anything seems off.

Critical care would be good to pass any of the mushroom through.

I've had these in the past, when using shredded cardboard.where it got too wet, mushrooms appeared.
The piggies seemed fine.i cleaned the cage out immediately. Changed bedding.cleaned out where water bottle is daily.
It's moisture in the bedding that causes these ink cap mushrooms.
Clean the are more frequently.
