A veterinary nurse told me yesterday that if piggies chew fleece/vetbed etc, it can make them poorly!

Is it true?

Mine don't chew it, but I'm worried they'll start chewing!

Hi there i use fleese in a small bed in the corner of the cage when i first put it in they chewed holes in it it didnt harm them at all i would have thought it would be ok they dont bother with it now just snuggle down on it (they got the jist eventually that it wasnt a giant bowl of food i had put in) ha ha x

All the veterinary nurses in my clinic are twits so I'm not surprised by that comment. Piggies I have met don't generally chew fleece, and if they do it's normally to find out what it tastes like and then they spit it out again. Fleece and vetbed are non toxic, and I've noticed my pigs find it very hard to actually pull it apart. They nibbled it one when it first arrived, and now they don't take any notice. ::)
I imagine if they haven't done it yet it won't occur to them to do it in the future... ;D
