thinking ahead to the colder months I do want to make my own c&c cage but I was looking at my huge redundant dog cage and wondered if I could create a set up for the girls in there, afterall it has a removable tray at the bottom with slats above so any wees will not stay on the top of the tray, it goes in the bottom of the tray - how cool 8)

the measurements are not great, its 24" deep x 35" wide, but is tall (didnt measure that bit rolleyes ), I would make it two, maybe three levels to give space as I know its under 3ft so wouldnt be big enough for the 3 girls as a single layer. Obviously I would put something round the cage to cover the gaps (if they are top big, havent looked really) but not sure if its something I can persue or give up on and just work on doing a c&c cage somehow on the floor.

I am just tempted as the cage is a frame waiting to be built on, it would provide structure and stability as a basis with adjustments to make it guinea pig friendly.

That's a good idea :) Just make sure the bar spacing is small enough that they can't squeeze their heads through and get stuck, cos sometimes it's kinda wide.

I can put chicken wire on the inside (inside as farming logic says if you want to fence whats on the inside, you need to out the nails on the side facing them - hence wire inside). If its not going outside it doesnt need to be fox poof and the cage is strong, very strong as its suitable for big dogs :o so that will fill in any big gaps between the wires.
