My three 6 month old gps live indoors in a c and c cage. I have just bought a nice big outdoor run for them and now that the weather is milder I am giving them some outdoor time in the run during the day. They have a shelter, tunnels and food and water. They are loving the grass but once they've eaten their fill they are just hiding and snuggling in the shelter. How long should I be leaving them outside?

Bumping this, we don't put our piggies outside but hopefully you'll get some answers off those that do.

I was hoping to get some of mine out for a while today but thought it was a bit too chilly for them.i took advantage of the dry grass though and cut some with scissors to take in for them.

Just be careful as Spring grass is rich & can cause bloat issues :( Build up their outdoor time gradually, start with an hour a day on the grass so as not to upset their tummies :)

Thanks, they seem to be enjoying an hour or two in the afternoon when it's warmer. I'm bringing them in when they disappear inside their shelter as I think they've had enough or are chilly. No ill effects from the grass as far as I can see, fingers crossed.

Mine usually feed for about 30 minutes then tend to just huddle in a group so they are rarely in the run for more than 45 minutes.

Mine get a little run time once the weathers better and I'm sure the grounds not got damp in it. I tend to pick a little grass first to feed them and build it up a bit then they will have about ten mins first, then I build it up to half hour - I am restricted to weekends and evenings as I have to sit out on guard and won't leave them unsupervised.

Amazing that when I was a child and had guineas most of the time and rabbits they went out at 8am before school and were left in the run all day until evening with Mum checking on them a few times - wouldn't happen now!

Mine went outdoors for the first time this year today, just for 45mins. I brought them back in an they were flat out then snoozing for half an hour.
