I'm a real novice I accidentaly purchased a pregnant guinea pig from PAH (never again.)

Mom and pups are doing great I have recently purchased a bigger indoor cage 150cm long But still feel it's a little small.

So I'm going to buy another I think I have 4 females any advice and recommendations on size and style?

With the number of pigs you have no ready made cage will be big enough. I would go for a c and c cage. If you make it 3 by 8 then you will not have to give daily exercise time. I have a c and c that size for my four.

Thanks a lot guys are the c and c cages base strong enough to be cleaned etc?

Sorry if its a stupid question I'm very new to looking after my guinea pigs

Yes they are. I have mine on the floor so I do not actually have a base. As you have babies you will need to cover the bottom of the grids with correx to stop the babies escaping. Please feel free to ask any questions. No question is stupid.

I agree with above. Either C&C or some other kind of DIY Cage would be best for you as even the biggest commercial cages (160cm long) just wouldn't be big enough.

Since you got the preggy piggy from PAH, people on here in the same situation have managed to get PAH to provide cage, food and bits for free. I saw it in a thread once and usually you have to speak to the manager I think. Maybe someone can point you in the right direction on here.

I hope you have four females! That would make it so much easier on you! They're so cute!

Good luck housing your expanded family. You could also try to built something yourself rather than ready made. My hubby had a go in our spare room, now called piggy room !

Its a shame piggies actually demand lots of space. It's easier and less space to have a cat or dog. I tried to convince my friend with a cat that it was easier to keep piggies but when he saw me cleaning cages for 4/5hrs one day, I couldn't keep the pretence up!

LOL its not less space for a cat or dog! That would be cruel. But yes its alot less work for a cat or dog. The 160cm cage That springs to mind for me is the one by Little Friends, you can get it on their own website or on ebay (I dont know if anywhere else does it). They are the same company that makes the 100cm square cage which really looks awesome, I dont know what it is about square cages they just look cool. Maybe because you don't often see them. But in this case I do not recommend either of those cages for 4 piggies, way too small!

Hey i ended up in the same kinda situation i bought two females but of them ended up pregnant and she had four pups so i have ended up with six, one was a boy which we had to get neutered and I've ended up with this cage. I separated the levels with correx (plastic sheet) over the holes where the ramps use to go and have a pair of piggies in each level. They also have a playpen i set up for them in the evening...

Pets at home didn't deal with our situation very well and tried to give us a 80cm cage for the four babies to live in, however they give us a large 10kg bag of nuggets and the biggest hay bale. But my mum had to kick off to get that, we ended up phoning head office before they'd even listen to us, they wanted us to give them the babies back with the nursing sow (wasn't going to happen)!

Anyho it's a fab cage it's really easy to clean out as it has two large doors at the front on the two lower levels which i can fit my whole body in and you can take the wire top off to clean the piggies at the top out. It's also on wheels which is handy to hover underneath it. Might not be what your looking for but it sorted my problem out.

I have bought loadsa c&c grids and might re-try another build with them but with 3 levels it's little tricky.

As you only have four piggies you could have a long single c&c or double stacked one which is a lot easier to build.

Good luck i hope you find something that works for you and the piggies! :)

thanks PAH are awful they have fobbed me off will never use again. They also wanted me to give them the pups after 6 weeks but there is no chance

Where did you buy the cage from?

Maybe you should ring head office like MushiiPeas and have a nag at them instead?

As far as I am aware, you are under no contract to give them the piggies back after 6wks so they can't exactly sue you or do anything. If you say you will give them back and that means they will give you stuff then be it. You can just ignore their calls or give them a wrong phone number or something.

Theres no way I will be giving the pups to them. It was an offer from PAH not a demand.

I give up with them

Hey, http://www.zooplus.co.uk/shop/small_pets/hutches_cages/rabbit_cage/120_cm_cages/137450 i got it from here, dunno if you can get it else where cheaper! :)

We refused to give the babies back to!

You can use the code STOCK-UP for 3.50% (£5.07) off the cage...although on HUKD it says this code takes 5% off which is inaccurate.

Also if you use TopCashBack then you get another £6.63 (4.04%) in cashback.

Making it £159.29...which is still pricey but is about the price of 3 new Ferplast 120cm cages albeit they will be unstackable.

LOL its not less space for a cat or dog! That would be cruel.

I think the point is that cats and dogs can share your living space with you, so in terms of having to find a specific space for them within the home you're not requiring to create as big an area as you would for a large cage. For example my house has plenty of space for my brother's dog who stays with us regularly and we don't need to move anything around for when he's staying here, however it would be impossible to take on another pair of guinea pigs as there is absolutely no space for another cage anywhere.

And the other thing about Cats is that they leave hairs all over your house and you are forever trying to get them off your black clothes!

..and dogs - well 99% of the time you can tell who has a dog as their house stinks! (Obviously they have become immune to it so they don't notice anymore). Although my parents have a dog and for some reason it doesn't smell, and I only go there every other month so evidently there are a minority of dogs that don't smell as much.

Aside from wafts of the pee smell occasionally, the most my place smells is 'natural' so my friend put it lol

Could I just add that baby guinea pigs if housed in a c&c need to have the correct higher than normal to make sure no little piggie can get its head stuck in the grids. This can be fatal if it happens and your not around :(

Hi Luke, my husband joined two ferplast 120's end to end. He cut a hole in one end of each and used of cuts or wood to make the bridge and two side pieces ( to stop nosy pigs from disappearing in the gap between the two cages) he ca ble tied the two sections of bars on the top that were next to each other. The result is a sturdy cage with a bedroom end and a hay end and my boys seem happy with it.
