Hi there. Our second girl Hermione died yesterday- she was 4 and a half. We had her and her sister who died about 3 months ago. We are looking to get 2 more. I was worried that the cage we had from a pet store which was 95 x 57 x 46 cm was really too small but we stuck for space. If u feel it’s really too small we will get another and try to reorganise things a bit. Hopefully a c and c cage we
Might get to fit. Only got a yard out back so whilst they did go out sometimes with straw and bits thrown about it was hard so outdoor play a struggle.

Hi you may want to start a new thread for this so people can find and reply to your comment easier :)

hi maybe your questions will get more attention if you post your own thread. there is a very handy size guide in the guides for new owners section that might help.

Hi and welcome. I don’t know if you meant to respond to this thread but it’s not the right place for your thread. You’re better off starting one of your own.

As an aside, the cage is too small for even one guinea pig, let alone two. Two sows or a boar and sow need minimum 120x60cm. Two boars need minimum 150x60cm (180x60cm would be a better starting point). If you plan to get another pair of guinea pigs then you really do need to give them the space they need. Of course more is better if you have it but the minimum must be given.
PS you shouldn’t use straw with guinea pigs. Risk of injury. If they’re outside then you can put down some fleece or similar, with something absorbent underneath. If it’s too cool for you to stand in bare feet then it’s too cold for them.

Thanks v much for this. The outdoor fleece is a good idea xx PS I am new to here. I’ve screenshotted your advice. Annoying that what is supposed to be a reputable pet store gives rubbish advice 😡. Kitchen reorganisation coming on !

A pet shop is in it to make money. They’re often not up to date on the pets they sell and their needs. And they don’t care about proper care - not separating sows from boars, pregnant sows, those who are ill, injuries due to not getting on with other piggies, fall outs later due to no compatibility.

Thanks again for your help. We have found space for 51x55 inches which equates to 2m x 1m40cms. Just gotta do the ‘clear out’ work now ! Your post proved to my other half that if we were gonna get more piggies that was how it HAD to be.
