Hi Everyone, first of all I am new to the site so sorry if I am re-hashing any old posts.

For Christmas my partner surprised me with 2 adorable female piggies who are now around 5 months old. They came with a Ferplast 80 which they are quickly getting to big for. I have spent hours looking at cages, comparing specs and am getting more confused as to what I can get by the day. Please can people give me some advice and answer some of my questions?

The hard thing is a pretty much know exactly what I want in a cage, I just cannot seem to find the exact thing. My Specifications are:
1. I would like a plastic base with the painted bars - pretty much the same as my current cage, it is a good quality feel and easy to clean
2. I want the large front opening cage on atleast one of the floors - once again like my current cage. I do not like the idea of top opening cages as I feel that coming in from the top is more frightening to the piggies.
3. I really want white (light coloured) bars - so many cages have black bars on either all of some component of the cage. I really want white bars as I feel black bars will take some of the light from the piggies, look silly in the room where they are located and make the piggies more difficult to see.
4. I also would like a multi-story cage, preferably 3 floors to give them as much play space as possible and to future proof incase our piggy family was to get larger in the future.
5. I think a 100cm cage would be more than enough for our piggies and look suitable in the area of the kitchen diner where they currently live. We could probably fit a larger cage in but this might impead in getting around the back of the table.
.... I know I haven't made it easy, I feel like I have narrowed it down to the Ferplast Tris and the Vital 3 tier, the only thing is I can only find these cages with a mix of black and white bars and this is a factor that is really important to me. I have email Ferplast directly to see if there are other colour options available but as yet, no reply.
Can someone tell me if Ferplast and Vital are the same brand as they look identical and the specs seem to be the same, however there can be a price difference?
One option I was thinking of was purchasing 2 x 2 tier Ferplast 100's which do have white bars and using the parts to make one 3 tier cage and one single floor cage which I could sell on. I am not sure if this would be structurally sound though and still my problem is I can only find white bar double cages at Pets at Home and they are £145 each making my little build project £290, which seems a bit mental when other triple cages are £160-190.

Sorry for rambling on, I just want to give Pixie and Sprite the best home I can
Any thoughts on the above would be greatly appreciated
Many Thanks

The first thread I will draw you attention to is this one...

Cage Size Guide

Basically, a Fernplast 100 is a bit on the small side for 2 guinea pigs. The other thng to bear in mind is that th eladder in 2 tier cages take away some floor space - and floor space is important.

Have you thought about getting a C&C cage ?

You can either buy the grids and make your own - or get a set from

2 x 6 Grid Cage | C and C Guinea Pig Cages

There's lots of ideas on this thread ...

Hi,
I know what you mean as when I was buying cages I really wanted white bars too! :p Hopefuly Ferplast can answer you but I think you'd be best with a biggest floor space for running room...a Ferplast 120 is a better size as the extra 20cm in length really makes a difference...
I agree with the post above though..a C&C cage is a really good option, you can make it what ever size you want, multiple levels of desired and u can get them in white! I know it's a little more effort in regards to buying correx but so much cheaper than a store bought cage :)

Thank you for the replies, I do feel better knowing that I am not the only person frustrated by the lack of white bars. We can go to a 120 the main problem with that was finding something for the cage to stand on. Ideally we wanted a cabinet with doors to store all the piggies food and extra toys. I know this is an extra question but if you know of anywhere you can get the cabinets 60cm deep that would also be great to know. They do have a VivaPet (I think that's it's name) outdoor/indoor run to entertain themselves.

My partner likes the ides of C&C cages and I think we are going to HAVE to give that a try with the idea that we will sell it if we don't like it. How easy are they to re-assemble if you only want the basic cage? e.g. we are going away for a few days and the piggies are staying at my mums, with the tiered cage I was going to make it into one tier for the few days, Is this as easy for C&C.

They are easy to change by just unclicked the connectors and re assembling and clicking back together but because of the correx base, once it's made is hard to change and I'll be honest I don't find C&C cages easy to move as you have to completely dismantle them and roll up the correx and tape it all back together again (depending on the size or your car and the correx lol) but you could keep your old indoor cage for when your mum has to look after them maybe especially if only for a few days? I have one of my caged on an IKEA Table then attached a curtain with a couple of hooks screwed in and then kept all their stuff underneath which was good...not now though as I have more piggies and they are underneath haha
