Hi all,

Hope you’re well.

Rosie has always been a greedy eater at veggie time. Often she eats too much too quickly and coughs once or twice, no long term issues there.

Today she was eating bell pepper and I noticed she was clawing at her mouth and opening up wide trying to remove a piece that was stuck. I looked inside her mouth, but the piece was so far back I couldn’t even see it. Luckily her breathing was unaffected, she was just in a lot of discomfort. I gave her a couple minutes, ready to call the vet clinic, but then she spit out a small piece of the bell pepper, and all was fine.

Is this her being impatient again or could this indicate a problem with her molars? Bell pepper is quite a soft veg, I wouldn’t expect a piece to get stuck like that. Her eating is fine otherwise, she loves her hay and received a few peaflakes after her ordeal.

I might also just be paranoid because I fear dental issues after my previous dental piggy🌈

Hi

I would only worry if this keeps happening plenty of times. A one off is not relevant.

No I think it’s just got stuck. Keep a record of her weekly weight, you are looking for a downward trend. Lack of hay eating, that’s the first thing that drops off. Gagging, picking up food and dropping it, lethargic
Dental issues are a nightmare especially if a dental is poorly performed by an unexperienced vet so I wouldn’t jump to that procedure unless you have a piggies that basically is starving to death.
