At the moment my two boars live in separate hutches outdoors with a 24 hour acces to an attached exercise run with a divider in the middle because they fight! This set up isn't pretty in our garden and most definitely isn't ideal for the wet weather we have oh so often in sunny England! My dads made me really happy by offering to help me convert a shed (that I have to buy myself lol) into a guinea pig palace! Divided down the middle, one on each side of course, we will be able to make upper levels for them to go on and have a little shelf for all their guinea supplies!
I'm so excited its going to be great for them :-) and also in the near future build a run onto it for them, just wanted to share my excitement with everyone! If anyone already has this sort of set up I'd be grateful for pictures just to help me visualise and give me ideas how I can do things!

This sounds a wonderful idea. When you get started, maybe you could begin a series of photos as it all takes shape.

I don't know what size you're looking for but there's this on my local freecycle near Thirsk :-

It may be too big but it's free & could be maybe cut down in size. I have sent a message to see if it's still available & if it is & you are interested I'll forward the contact details.

This looks and sounds absolutely fab to say its free, although its bigger than I was looking at and I'm going to have to wait until we measure up the section of the garden they're going in! Thanks a bunch for linking me to it though everybody is so kind on this website :-D x

Sounds great! Looking forward to seeing how it develops, piggies are going to love it I am sure.

It may have already gone but I sent a message just after 8 this morning. It's possible that they're at work & won't be on line till tonight. I'll get back to you if I get the thumbs up. I would have loved it myself but I've already got 2 sheds & my oh won't be happy if I take the washing line space.

Sorry, just got an email back to say that it has been taken. It's worth registering with your local freecycle via www.freecycle.org & placing a want for a shed or similar.

Just been to buy a shed. 8 foot by 6 foot! Cost £284 but my piggies are worth every penny if it means they'll be happier and healthier in winter :-) only problem is its going to take a month to be delivered argh! Will post pics when it's finished though x

Me and my boyfriend just finished converting a shed into a guinea pig palace. We have a little drawbridge and door where they go outside whenever it's open. A big space to run around. The flooring is Lino for easy cleaning and got a roll from Carpet Right for £10! 3metres by 2 metres! The wall is insulated with polystyrene and wood over. Read in another thread that polystyrene is very good for both summer and winter. We also have a ramp for a second level and a large bed area that has a tunnel. The lid is removable for easy access. Also the boyfriend managed to rig the water bottle too. And when I get around to it I'm going to hang a hay ball and other stuff. Will post a picture once the Piggies have settled in.

If you need insulation go to an electrical retailer ones who sell washing machines and ask them if they have any polystyrene from their display models. Worth asking to save money on buying the stuff
