Hello

I just wondered if anyone else has experienced a Guinea pig suddenly drinking a lot on a daily basis. She never used to drink at all, now she's by her bottle alot. The vet has given her rheumocam for a week and it hasn't helped.

I would be grateful for any ideas, thanks

Hi and welcome

Have there been any recent changes in diet (eating less fresh food) or temperature/living conditions?
Rheumocam is yet another generic brand for metacam; it is a painkiller and anti-inflammatory. What strength and what dosage have you been given?

Have you been monitoring the weight to see whether there has been a noticeable weight loss over 50g or more or not in combination with the increase in drinking?

Has your vet checked for a potential infection, kidney problems/failure, in combination with weight loss potential diabetes etc. ? How much experience with guinea pigs does your vet have?

Our drinking guide has got a chapter on sudden changes in drinking behaviour: All About Drinking And Bottles

All the best.

Thankyou very much for your help!

She's on 0.2ml daily, she's not losing weight and we haven't had the heating on. But I have been giving her baby corn recently.

The vet isn't a specialist, I thought I'd give her a week on this anti inflammatory and if there's no change I'd take her to the exotic specialist.

Thanks for the guide too
