Hello! I have a 5 year old female who is having a run of bad luck.

URI for three months finally responded to second round of three and a half week run of anti biotics mid Jan.

Eating very well all way through URI, very happy, very chatty. Some muscle loss around pelvis according to non exotic vet, but she is 5 and my other 5year old who is well feels similar. They are both fed very well fresh veggies and hay daily and have a constant supply of hay.

Ten days ago I noticed a urine smell and noticed her back end wet. Vet said she has a bladder stone, no burgess biscuits nothing dark green, no strawberries, no bacteria present in sample but a bit of blood, here’s some loxicom 10mg x 2.7 dose daily. If she’s no better in four days bring her back to be put to sleep!!

So spending five days sobbing my heart out I went back with a very happy, chatty, very mobile, alert, incontinent, medicated pig to see another vet who agreed that as she is very happy and eating etc, so long as the meds were working we didn’t have to put her to sleep. In fact he saw her and looked puzzled.

I am aware she is a prey animal and will hide illness, but I’ve known her for five years, the girls live in the busiest part of the house, so we would notice if she wasn’t herself and I’m sure she is ok to still be with us!

I am washing her bottom twice a day to stop urine burn and have now noticed on her very lower back above her genital area a scabbing that looks a bit like cradle cap and some baldness.

Does anyone know if this is ring worm or could it be something else? Any other advice for this or the incontinence gratefully accepted.

I So sorry you must so upset by the thought of losing her. I think you will know when your little ladies quality of life is poor. If she is eating well and happy in herself and got good pain relief then she doesn’t sounds ready to go just yet. Has your vet x-rayed or scanned her? Or can he feel a stone? Have you had his diagnosis confirmed?

That scurf could be ringworm or perhaps crystallised urine? Your vet would need to test for ringworm to confirm it

Thank you for taking time to reply. Sadly we are very far north with no exotic vet specialist. They did not X-ray and they could not feel a stone. Her urine is clear and in herself she is absolutely fine still happy still chatting and eating. I did think crystallised urine, but it definitely looks like skin. You can see the edges peeling away. I’ve put some canestan in tonight and off to the vet again this week! Poor wee piggie can’t get a break lately!

Aw such a shame, sending hugs  have a frank debate with your vets about what is best for her
