Hi - We are new to The Guinea Pig Forum
We homed 2 guinea pigs (sisters) from a rescue centre last May, they are nearly 2 years old. They are long haired and really friendly and get lots of care and attention. They live outside during the warmer months, but inside at the moment. Both have seemed happy and well although we have noticed that Nova who has particularly fine hair, was getting matted fur underneath from urine we thought, despite regular brushing and bathing from time to time. We have had matted fur cut, and trying to wipe regularly with piggie wipes, but recently took them both to the vets for a general check up and to remove matted hair that I just didn't feel comfortable cutting away. The nurse was helpful and clipped the hair but said the skin was a little irritated underneath and said that it could be incontinence and to keep watching her. We've been keeping a much closer check on her and she is quite wet bottom and feet when we pick her up at times. They live in a C&C cage with guinea pig fleece liners in. She is eating well and seems happy enough.
Just wondered if anyone else had had any experience to share.
Many thanks in advance

This needs investigating further. I would book her in again.

In the meantime vet bed has been recommended on here. And wipe her down with plain water rather than piggy wipes.

I agree about further tests.
She is quite a young piggy so it would be best to rule out infection or other urinary issues.

Keeping the fur short and her bottom clean with plain water will help, but she shouldn't be leaking urine for no reason.

Yes, we are just using warm water now and changing fleece regularly. We’ll investigate vet beds too.
Going to get in touch with vets again. Can’t work out if she’s just sitting in her wee or if there a mThank you
