My guinea pig who is at least 6 years old so he is a senior has been having inconsistent poos. He will sometimes have impaction which i know is normal for older guinea pigs and it doesn’t seem to cause him any discomfort and I check up on it as often as possible in a day and help him. But recently his poos have also become super soft at times and will not form a shape and just come out in a weird consistency. Is there anything i can do to help him as i’m sure this is due to his age. His health otherwise is normal he’s eating tons of hay and i feed him alot less vegetables as i’ve read too many can be the cause. I just want to help him as he gets dirty quite easily now and i don’t want to stress him by bathing him often. Thankyou! x

What a great age! If his pops are soft then he will have to come off all veggies until at least two days after the poo has returned to normal shape/firmness. Soft pop is usually a sign of mild tummy upset. If you reintroduce (I’d start with herbs as they’re mild on the tummy) and the same thing happens then I’d consider getting him checked out by the vet. Hopefully a few days off veg will sort him out though.

I hope he’s back to his usual poo.
