Hey, I've been using Fitch very successfully with my piggles.
I currently order it online but was wondering if anyone had any knowledge of anywhere that stocks it in central Scotland?
It is also currently out of stock where I buy it, which isn't good, I've had to resort back to shavings!

I have heard of that but never seen it. Is it good? I find Fitch really absorbent, soft and dust free. Any suggestions of online suppliers so I can compare costs?

Thanks. That's where I normally get it, but 20kg bale that we get is sadly out of stock  and if buy 10 kg makes it really expensive.
Having a look at alternatives so I have a back up!

I know that members of the NEGPR facebook group get together & order 16 big bales at a time & they get it for less than £10 a bale. There are other alternatives such as soft paper bedding or tea bag bedding which your local farm store might sell these are not quite the same as fitch but at about £7 to £8 a bale, definitely worth a try :) x

Fitch , :cen: l tried it a wile ago ,

Tried 4 sacks then a pig died with very little warning

vet autopsied , she showed me a peice, of intestine, that had a piece of fltch, firmly logget , and blocking it ,

a fluke ? Maybe , but It convinced me that the only truly safe bedding is vet bed

I must admit, I am going off Fitch !

My last batch had several pieces of what were clearly till receipts in it.

I have contacted customer services on at least 2 occasions to advise them of the poor state it has arrived in ( the packaging is too flimsy ) and have never had a reply.

I contacted customer services to get some idea when it is next in stock - and never had a reply.

I have just ordered some Finecard. If I like Finecard, Fitch will have lost a customer.

Thanks for letting me know.

i've just ordered finacard aswell. never found till receipts in my fitch but i think they might be starting to get greedy now because it's becoming so popular - just noticed a 20kg bale is now £20.99. wasn't it only the start of the year they put it up to £19.99 a bale? and last year is was only £17.49 a bale?

I noticed price increase to, but didn't realise it had gone up that many times!
I've not had an issue with Fitch either and loved its absorbency.
Just had a look at Finacard but seems quite expensive. I ordered a 30L bag of Back to nature pellets, as Fitch out of stock, and it only just did one full hutch, it wouldn't do two so would be way to expensive!
Who'd a thought fibdng a good reasonably priced Guinea bedding would be so complicated!

yeh, it's going up quite regularly now :( it's such a good product though so i think most people will still pay it but i do think alot will start to get annoyed soon aswell and then they'll start to lose customers. especially if the quality starts to go down while the price is going up!

all bedding seems expensive doesn't it! i use fleece as much as i can but it doesn't dry that well in our house so i have to have a back-up, especially in winter.

Thanks for that.

I've been doing a lot of searching and think I have found an alternative I'm going to give ago. But if not as good as Fitch then will have a look at above.

Hi I've not been on here for a while due to one thing and another. @PiggyOwner id be interested to know what the finacard turned out to be like.

I haven't used Fitch for a while now having found aubiose suited our needs. But I do like Fitch better than Aubiose because of its softness- I just can't really justify paying the extra money for it - those regular price increases are shocking! It's almost worth making a special trip to pick it up personally because it costs an awful lot less when you do that.

I've been using fitch for a long time. Luckily I managed and order just before it went up in price AGAIN (day before) There is no where local that sells it so can only be purchased direct.

I think the price increase is because the company are becoming greedy as it has been such a good seller to the point they actually run out. I know most people on North East Guinea Pig Rescue have decided they are going to be trying alternatives.

Once my lot has gone i'm going back to fleece as it's cheaper, easier to clean out and kinder to the piggies and with the rest of their fleece hideys etc much warmer in winter.

Got to say though never had any problems with fitch and have loved it but just now too expensive x

Finacard is OK - definately softer than Aubiose and a good alternative to Fitch . I use Aubiose in hay trays.

I managed to order mine while they had limited stock. My pigs are on fleece and vetbed but I use Fitch for the hamsters.
