I have 5 boars; 2 pairs and a single boy and for the past couple of years (shortly after I got piggy number 3) I have been using fleece as their bedding with puppy pads underneath. I'm needing an alternative as fleece just isn't working well anymore, particularly not agreeing with my 2 newest additions who happen to be Peruvians, their hair seems to soak up the pee instead as the fleece isn't whicking away the moisture quick enough. It's also become a hassle to wash all the bedding twice a week as I have 2, 2x6 C&C's as well as a 2 tiered corner cage; this means a lot of fleece blankets and it has now become one endless cycle of washing. My mum is getting fed up with guinea pig hair and bits of hay clogging up the washing machine and due to us having practically no garden the fleece usually has to be put in the tumble drier. It's costing quite a bit just to wash and dry the fleece each week and we recently had to replace our washing machine after the old one blew up (my mum is convinced it wore out quicker due to all the piggy bedding)
In the past I have used woodshavings but didn't really get on with them, I found them to be dusty and they caused my boys to be a bit sneezy and snuffly, they also got stuck in their bits when they dragged their bums across the ground, as well as drying out their feet and generally being messy and not very absorbant at all! I'm looking for a bedding that is reasonably cheap, that I can buy in bulk and that is soft and absorbant without being dusty. Had a sample of aubiose but wasn't keen on it, seemed a bit sharp for my liking. Hay and newspaper isn't really an option either as it would cost me a fortune even with the cheapest hay I could find. I've read positive reviews on megazorb and was wondering what other beddings are out there?
