I have just become aware that my 2-3 year old male Guinea pig is slightly impacted (not severe, but it’s there). Any suggestions of what to do? 😬

Hello. I used to have an older piggy with quite bad impaction. I had to clean him out daily. I didn’t have to use anything to get it out. It would just come with a little pressure and a gentle squeeze. Good luck you will get to know how long your piggy can go between cleans. But the smell is something you will NEVER get used to 🤣🤣🤣🤢

We were able to get some blockage out, and I’m feeding him fiber—filled foods like carrots, along with plenty of hay 🙂. Thanks for the advice!

:agr:

You don’t want them to have carrot in the diet - it isn’t healthy and can make any digestive issues worse by adding too much sugar into the diet (unbalances the gut).
They need grass and hay fibre primarily, which will assist with keeping the gut moving properly.

The guides below explain impaction. You should also consult a vet if this is the first time he has had impaction as it can be a secondary issue.
