ok Charm, Ringo and Pancake all have sore on their bodies. The sores are awful. They have had them for months. I personally think Pancakes sores are worst. I am really worried. Is it allergic reaction? Am i feeding them something wrong. They also love tobite at their fur which makes it stick up. how do i stop this? I am really worried about my babies...

Perhaps Mites? Can you take a photograph? I would get them to a vet to be honest if its been going on for months its for the best. Hope they are ok. :)

Sounds like mites to me. They must see a vet urgently - the pain from sores (this is why they're biting at it) can lead to fitting which can kill a piggy.

I want to take them to the vet but my mum says it's way too much money and they will be fine. but i don't think they will....

There's not much you can do without a vet. It doesn't cost much to treat for mites.

it sounds like mites to me,

you really shouldn't keep a pet if money is an issue, if in any doubt you should see the vet

is there an Australian equivelent to the Peoples Dispencery for Sick Animals - PDSA?

Nx

It does vary cost me £24.00 for one pig but that was for 3 injections and a consultation fee. To be honest you can't let this continue. It's cruel. :-\

ok....i'll figure out how to get my mum to let me take them... money is no issue.....it's just mym mum's excuse.
my mum's dog named dog(very original) died a few years ago because of a vet and she has trouble taking animals to the vet. I know i might sound rude but i must say this! I have enough money to feed and let my pigs live happily, they have a great life with me, i am not being cruel! That word hurts as much as a sword through someone's chest does. Never ever say I am cruel! you guys should be helping me(most are) not saying i am cruel and shouldn't have pets. It isn't my fault that my mum is scared of vets. Now, I am going to go and try and talk my mum into letting me take them to a vet and paying with my money. I am not cruel!

sorry if I offended you :(

I was speaking generally and not directly at you

Forums are a great place to share experiences and you usually get answers pretty quick

however with health problems many people 'try' to fix it themselves when they should be speaking to an expert

sorry again

it's ok, i just felt as though everyone was ganging up on me....

Omg!! I just found a huge sore on one of pancakes rosette things..... it's all red and everything......!!

Noone is saying you shouldn't have pets, but they need a vet and they appear to be suffering. :-\

ok.....but answer this one question...they wont have to be put down willl they? i know if they do, they do but i just want to know what wrong adnwhat you guys think might happen....

Please take them to the vets ASAP. Not having a go at you but it is cruel to leave them without treatment. The sores are from them scratching themselves so hard and cutting their own skin with their claws. You might not be cruel intentionally but the result is the same. sorry if it sounds harsh

Oh no they won't be put down for mites, its easy to treat. If it was lice you could do it yourself. I've had a pig with mites they can be horrid little things. Just ask your mum, this isn't your fault and perhaps your mum doesn't realise that they won't go without a vets help. Good luck! x

Just like S&T said. Mites can be treated very easily with the correct treatment from a vet. they will not have to be put down but the longer you wait the more pain they are in and the longer it will take them to heal.

ok...i will MAKE my mum let me take them to the vet. i have about 90 dollars in my wallet, i am pretty sure that will be enough. if not i 'll borrow some money and pay her back later. Right now i am printing all this info out to give to mum so she will let me take them to the vet.....wish me luck....i think i will need it...

90 should be enough. I paid a consultation fee and £12 for 3 mite injections so it was £24 all together Good luck! Hope things work out. x

please please please nag nag nag nag it's really important you get them to a vet if its mites it it an extremly painful thing and they wil be suffering! :'(
Good luck at the vets let us know how you get on! :smitten:

You really need to see a vet if things are this serious b/c it may have gone systemic and could kill your pigs. All pigs must be treated. Xeno or Zeno is the best b/c it is a topical series, NO shots. However, this probably can't be used on your pigs b/c of the severity of the outbreak. They will require a series of 3 injections. Oh yeah, sounds like mites.

Good luck at the vets! And i hope you were able to convince your mom to take you.

I've had to convince my mom before, I just printed out a load of information on what it could be and how it could kill my Slush (he stopped eating) , and then i told her that if he died because she wouldn't let me take him to the vet I would never talk to her again and a bunch of other stuff. It did the trick XD

If worse comes to worse and you are still unable to convince her, just go to the vet by yourself, I don't know how old you are, but if you have any older friends that can drive depending on how far the vet it, you could get them to take you. If its close then put your piggies in a carrier and walk. Guinea pigs generally don't cost must at the vets it depends on the vet, but it won't be like majorly expensive.

Good luck again :)

It's a lot of money to take your piggy's to the vet, 50 to 60 dollars in Aus and even more than that for the treatment, I know they need to go to a vet, but pepole don't always have that much money and Tayz is trying to do the right thing and Tayz is still try to get her mum to take them.
Good luck Tayz

Updates:
i nagged my mum all night and all morning until i had to go to school. Mum said "when dad gets home we willl ask him" but i said that is wayy too long. When i came home, mum was getting the cat carrier ready for the piggies. Charm(my best piggiefriend) had ripped alot of her fur around her back. When i saw it i brust into tears. We left straight away for the vet. The vet was nice and he checked to see if it is mites. Her found no mites but still thinks it is. He gave us some mite stuff and told us to get some more in 1 months time. every month we have to put it on them. their sores should dissapear and the hair should grow back. I cried so many times today. I can't wait until they have their fur back and sores healed. All i need to do now is keep an eye on them. I plan to watch my baby girls like a hawk :D

oh by the way. it cost 96 australian dollars. My mum suprisingly payed for it even though i offered to.....

thanks you guys...
-hugs-
