I'm Very Proud Of My Hamster Today!

I've got a lovely little Russian Dwarf Hamster his name is Igor!

He's been... trouble some in some ways as he was very fearful of humans when I got him and cage terratorial, so he would bite me a lot! And he wouldnt let me touch him :/

But today he let me stroke him down the back for the first time! Without being scared or even bothered really.

Yay! Well done Igor!
We are taking the taming process at his speed and it's been slow but worth while!

Another hamster update!


Although this week it's my rescued Syrian called Daenerys!
She came from a horrible situation
And was so scared of humans

Today she let me open the cage and she even ate food in front of my hand
Where as before she would run away if I open the cage or had my hands in
She sniffed at a meal worm I offered her and also sniffed my hand!

Which is a massive step from being afraid of me even being in the room and then being in her cage!

What great little animals I have :)
 
ahh congrats, out of interest what cage do you have your syrian in. I've had 3 cages so far, she either chews the bars relentlessly even thought she has food, boredom breakers etc. scratches at the plastic.
She lets us pet her and climbs onto my hand to be taken out, so she trusts humans and likes petting, but I can't help but feel her mind the rest of the time is on escaping 100%
 
Scooby and Shaggy I have four syrian hamsters. Two are in barney cages (zooplus) 100 x 50cm, one in the alexander (also zooplus) and a similar size and one in a larger cage from german amazon that is no longernavailable.

My female, Kashi used to bar chew a lot. I threaded cardboard through the bars for her to destroy and regularly gave her egg boxes with treats inside and other such things. She has gradually stopped phew. There are some good threads on the hamster central forum including one called managing bar chewers

what an amazing progress! a great joy for you! I wonder, what does a hamster do with a guinea pig? do they meet each other?

Thanks I'll check that out I don't mind the noise it's more worrying she could harm herself.

Both my hamsters are In Detolf cages which I'd a ikea cabinet used as a glass tank
It's very big
I've found Syrians especially like the large floor space :)
It helps reduce bar chewing because there are no bars to chew in the first place
Although my Daenerys does like chewing the lid and the sides which are wood :)

I never let my Hamsters meet my Guinea Pigs
It'd wouldn't be fair or nice
Although they can see each other through their cages
My Guinea Pig Baby seems to be especially annoyed with Daenerys because she drinks from her water bottle very loudly and Baby will Teeth chatter and Tumblestrut in return when she hears it :)
Daenerys doesn't care she just looks at her like she's saying 'and what?...'
:) :)

Although I've seen some photography on places like tumblr where Hamsters and Guinea Pigs are sat together so people must do it? :/
