Okay well I am now committed to making the bedding / base covers.

I have purchased 20 meters of chocolate coloured fleece (I love plain coloured fleece and then pattered cosies / beds). And I have bought another 6 inco pads (I already had 6).

I am going to buy a HUGE amount of elastic tonight too - my mum sews and has agreed to help me make the base covers I have in mind.

Some of you will have seen them - basically I plan to cut and sew the inco pads to fit perfectly the base of the correx box, then sew a bigger area of fleece over the top so the fleece can come over the top of the correx box and elastic in the edges to draw it over and under the correx.

IF it works it will make a HUGE amount of time difference to the cleaning routine.

Anyone already done this?

How did it go?

Any tips?

Thanks!

That's the one - only MUCH bigger and I need 6 of them!

Are you going to actually attach the fleece to the inco pads? Will they fit in the washer ok? I have to do loads of washes for my three cages :(

Does anyone else find that American's voice in that video highly annoying? inbreeding That is an ingenious product though! Personally, I would prefer it if the fitted fleece 'sheets' for my cage were separate from the under layer. It might take a few seconds longer to change, but I think it would be great if you could put a layer of newspaper between the inco pads and the fleece. Then you could just replace the newspaper a couple of times a week and put a new fleece cover on, and then do a big load of washing for the inco pads when they are dirty. Good luck with that, wish I had a C&C cage! :)

Good luck! As you say that would make cleaning so much easier!

I would LOVE some piggy bed spreads, if yours come out well maybe you could go into business ;)

Very exciting! I've been pondering making bed spreads but have in the end decided to keep fleece and absorbent layer separate. Changing my cage only takes about 10 minutes including hoovering the room, because I don't fold the fleece anymore, it's held down by the cage. I will however sew my butchered inco pads up so that they fit the cage exactly. Next time I'm buying something big for the piggies it will be Zorb. I already got the sample cut and like it!

You're very adventurous with fleece Petra and like to change it. I am into plain fleece and patterened / coloured beds and stuff. So I figure it will work out for quite a while and then I can poss sew a different fleece ontop if needs be.

I am NOT a good sewer though - I am going to recruit my mum to help me the first few.

My fleece arrived - it's a HUGE roll - I got 20 metres! Need elastic which I am going to order tonight.

Zorb is such a pain to get in the UK - hope it gets easier as time goes on.

Sounds great, can't wait to hear how it works out for you!

I'm doing a similar thing Lisa, doing a trial with some cotton mattress covers as I can't afford the inco pads yet. Having the fleece + mattress covers sewn together will make a huge difference to cleaning out. I'm doing the same for the inpatients units as well as my own 6 cages.

Where did you get your fleece from? I can find 5m for £22, it'll take a full 5m to do all the cages I need.

Heh, Adventurous with fleece sounds dangerous :)) I'm really excited to see how your bed spreads turn out, I'm thinking about getting some solid fleece too...

Yeah, fleece rolls are massive! As for the Zorb it's probably just as painful to get in Sweden, but here we're used to massive shipping costs for everything...

Let us know how it goes! I understand you have other things on your mind now though... Fingers are still firmly crossed!
