Just had to share my happiness with you all :smitten: :smitten:
Spoke to my son in Cardiff late last night /lunch time your time O0
He's going to Portugal for his 21st birthday next week, his girlfriend is taking him there as her present to him :smitten:
We chatted to him for nearly an hour which is a lot as he normally only chats to us for a bit then yaks away to his brother and sister for longer :)
He sounded so happy, he loves his job at the pub in Cardiff and has been doing supervising and maybe being trained as a Manager, i'm very very proud of his efforts i could nearly burst i'm so proud :smitten:
He says he can now cope with the cold, when i told him what our weather was like he said he couldn't remember our hot weather as it's so long since he's been home, it'll be 2 years in May :'( :'(
We were all about to say good bye when he surprised us and asked if we'd like to speak to his girlfriend :) She sounds lovely and i think she's got him to settle down a bit O0
Then i couldn't help myself when i finally said goodbye i blubbered like a baby, usually he just says it's ok mum, but this time i could hear it in his voice that he was nearly in tears too :'( i think he's missing us just as much as we miss him :'(
I bounced out of bed this morning and told Duke all about our call ::)
Thanks for listening :)

aww thats nice that you talked to him! I see my brother every weekend nearly and i still hate to say goodbye! lol

aww Glynis thats wonderful I dont know how I'd feel if any of my kids left the island let alone the country, so glad hes found a nice girl is she welsh? are you a native Australian, mum and dad wanted to emigrate there in the late 60s early 70s but my brother Darren is deaf and they refused him entry,
at least he doesn't mind out weather , last night it poured down and I love lying in bed listeneing to it, very relaxing carrie anne loves to go to bed if its raining as well, I know its wierd but like mother like daughter,

You must be delighted
Its odd how a lovely phone call can make us so happy in a short space of time
I'm going to Cardiff soon on business - I shall have to visit his pub!

It's wonderful news, Glynis. I must get over to his pub too - it's only an hour or so away. ;D

That's lovely Glynis! when are you coming over to visit him? ;)

Hi Glynis, I went to Cardiff Uni, it is a fab city and a great place for young people! It feels a bit safer compared to other cities too - can't think of a better place for him to be to be honest! You have to come over to see him - you'll love it, its got loads of fab shopping arcades too with lots of quirky shops, plus of course the rugby bars!
Which pub does he work in? I probably get sloshed in there many moons ago!

Bless you & him x
I lived between Cardiff & Newporta couple of years back - in an old train carriage in a field with the love of my life ^-^ we were poor but very happy!

Cardiff people are the salt of the earth - he'll be having a ball & probably making a good few friends for life. Loads of people from Cardiff go to Oz (it is Australia you are from isn't it?!) sorry had a tequila! Anyway what is the name of the pub he's working at?

Hx

That would be funny! I was there a few years ago though, between 2000~2004... my fave haunts were the Angel Tavern, The Woody, The Ely, The Owain Glyndwr and Old Orleans.. used to go to Coco Savanna nightclub but it burnt down, also Metros and the Philly.. Also one of the NZ rugby bars - can't remember the name! I had a fab time there tho, went back a couple of yrs ago with the girls from work for a shopping trip and had a great time!
Hils what you said reminded me of my mate spent who 2yrs in a tent with her ex on St Andrews goldcourse in Scotland - I always ask her how she survived in the cold and with no running water, how did you cope in a train carriage?! :)

Easily! it was an old cargo cabin - the type you see on cowboy films where they jump in one side & out the other! one door we put french windows in & the other Dylan built a mini bedroom off of it from old doors he found in a skip. We had an open fire made out of HUGE boulders & fire proof cement with a flue going out the roof - even when the fire went out the boulders kept warm for hours.
Water wasn't an issue really - we just got loads from friends houses & stored it in big containers. There was an old loo in the remains of the old wooden shack on the place for number 2's. Wees went wherever usually the compost heap!
I would beg a weekly bath from friends & just survived on stand up washes. We were only a stones throw away from the estuary 'beach' & had paddles to clean stinky feet & grimy hands - then just rinsed off with our saved water. Baby wipes were a god send at times.
We had a few mini wind turbines & solar panels. But all in all didn't need that much.
The timing was out & also....erm...my previous boyf of 3 years was his big bro >:D who ran off with my best mate. Me & Dylan always had a bit of a soft spot for each other -so when I had a break from the band i went there - the rest of the time I was living out of dodgy hotels & b&b's touring. Sounds glamerous but wasn't! My house was rented out while I was away. My last time there was the first half of 2000 :'(

Didn't actually play in Cardiff. The band was the Skatoons - Ska music. We have been talking about starting up again which would be fab. 8)

Thanks all :smitten: :smitten:

He's in the Walkabout pub just across the road from the Millenium (sp) stadium. He should be back in Cardiff by 3rd March.

Yes Hils i'm from Croydon, Victoria, Australia :-*

Michelle our family has been in OZ since mid 1800's i think, i know we've got many relatives in Britain my Mum has done all the research.
Unfortunately i can't go see him as we just can't afford it, plus we've still got Dee at school and she's doing year 12 Biology so she can't have any time off. Also we run a business with another couple and it would be hard to leave them for too long.

His girlfriend is South African, that's why he went there at Christmas so he could see her country and i think family too.
I wouldn't be surprised if she came back with him later this year, i suppose we'll find out once he's made his plans to return.
I think that's why i didn't enjoy the party last night for his cousin who had his 21st. When they did the speeches i got a bit teary knowing that i wouldn't be doing the same thing for my boy :'( :'(

It must be tough Glynis - but at least he is keeping in touch with you & actually talking to you! I know of some people going travelling & forgetting to speak to their parents :o
I think that I remember the Walkabout pub - its pretty big if I remember correctly!
I could send a few spys out if you like!
