I’ve had my guinea pig milo since last November he’s 7 months old, I originally had him and his brother (pepper) but due to medical issues we lost his brother at only 4 months old. Milos been fine on his own he’s very playful, he’s eating fine, all round a healthy piggy. But he’s always been a quiet pig, he weeks for food and used to rumble at pepper if they squabbled but other than that quite a quiet pig. He’s started squeaking more as he runs around and plays now and tries to copy my alarm to wake me up so he can play. But I’m not sure of what this sound that he makes while I fuss over him is. I started off thinking he didn’t enjoy it, but he keeps coming back for me to do it, I’m unsure if the sound is because he’s tickelish or not . It’s like a loud Cooing and repetitive. Can someone let me know what it means?

:wel:I’m not sure what the sound is from what you describe. But it could be contentment. If they’re not happy or don’t like something they let you know. They’re not ticklish though.

Do you plan to get him a friend once rescues are back up and running? He really shouldn’t be living alone.

You could try googling different guinea pigs sounds, that’s how I learned what different sounds meant.
Guinea pigs should never be kept alone, so much so that it is even illegal in some parts of the world. They are herd animals and so are very social - like humans. Him copying your alarm to get attention tells me he’s lonely, please consider getting him a friend as soon as everything goes back to normal and rescues reopen. Some rescues offer bonding sessions where they will spend hours upon hours bonding your guinea pig with a friend that he chooses, this is the best way for pigs to find a bond that makes them the happiest

Welcome to the forum.
Sorry that you lost Milo’s brother.
He will need a companion when we’re free to move around again.
We would love to see pictures of Milo - he sounds a happy piggy.
Enjoy the forum and hope you find it helpful too

This is milo, and yes when everything’s up and running he will be having a new companion I just needed a few weeks to monitor him as I was worried he might have a similar health condition to pepper, but he’s a very healthy pig :)

Yes I do plan on getting him a new friend when possible, the vet suggested giving him a few weeks to monitor him first as I’m him and pepper were o the same litter he had to have tests to make sure he was healthy etc

He will be having a friend when things open up, it’s more of a monitoring his health for the first few weeks after pepper as they were from the same littler the vet was worried they’d have a similar health condition so it was a case of tests and stuff but he is a happy and healthy pig and will be getting a companion ASAP.
