Hello! Someone dropped a guinea pig off at my work, so I decided to take him home. I would say he is about 6 months old. I have him quarantined away from my other pigs. He has been sneezing quite often since I brought him home. I have antibiotics from a few months ago, when one of my other pigs was a little sneezy. I do not have the money to bring him to the vet. Is it safe to treat him with these antibiotics? I would make sure to check his weight to get the correct dosage and everything. Any help is appreciated!

No, I’m afraid it would not be safe to give him any medication without a vet diagnosis and the correct press drive treatment for his condition. You don’t know what is actually wrong with him and giving him those antibiotics could be the wrong thing and could make a situation a lot worse/not treat it at all and therefore make it more expensive in the long run. He may also not need antibiotics at all depending on what a vet was to find. He really does need to be seen by a vet. Is there anybody who can help you financially to get him seen?

Its lovely you have taken him in but if you can’t afford to take him to the vet, might it be best that he is surrendered to a rescue centre so he can get treatment and be rehomed?
Do you have another or can you get a single boar for him to be bonded with when he is well enough, or have him neutered and bonded in with sows?
