How often do you find you have to give them a wipe or bum bath?

Can you please give some more information, how old is your piggy
Is it male or female? What’s happening with piggy?

Female, almost 6 (in October)

Long term metacam for mobility. Ovarian cysts (treated/controlled)

Always been mucky but wondering if we’re having to clean her too often so wondered how often others have to.

My wee pants girls get a bum bath once a week, and a bed/pee pad change every day or every 2 days depending on how damp and where they are sitting. Both are quite mobile and able to clean themselves generally and able to move to a drier spot if they like.
Bum baths and wipes for piggies with limited mobility should be more often- daily perhaps- with twice daily changes of wet beds if they can't move to a drier spot.
Bumblefoot, urine scald, and flystrike are always a worry with a wet dirty piggy but this is much more likely in outdoor pigs/long haired pigs/elderly and immobile pigs. A short haircut with clippers can make it easier to keep the area hygienic.
Have you seen the vet about the wee pants, to see if there is an infection or kidney issue or bladder sludge or stone?
Or perhaps arthritis that might prevent them cleaning thmselves effectively?

She needs a proper wash usually every couple of weeks I’d say with times where it’s needed every week so I’m glad to hear that it’s a normal amount of time between washes and trims.

Main sleeping area changed every night.

She’s always had a mucky bum but can’t reach under very easily now. She also can’t reach the middle of her back to scratch so we brush there for her.

Under regular vet care - six monthly cyst ultrasound/treatment/check up with a check up in-between for her general health, movement (she does have arthritis) and a closer shave of her wee pant area, nails, all that sort of thing.

No signs of sore feet, urine scald or other bladder or kidney type issues so far.

Just a regular mucky wee pants bottom!

Just about to give her another little wash. She’s so good about it and seems to enjoy the water.

Thanks for your reply.

She’s looking and smelling much better now after a successful wash.

I think we’ll up it to once a week all the time now. It’s time I think.

She loves the water. I think it’s soothing for her ❤️

My 6 year old arthritic piggy has also now started needing baths for that middle of the back region- she snuggles with the wee pants ladies who just wee on her back right where she can't reach, even though she keeps her own rear end very clean!
Once they get to that age its good to help them stay clean and comfortable, especially in the summer when flies are a worry.
They soon get used to regular baths if they need them to stay hygienic, I'm glad your old girl enjoys them :)

They’re certainly mucky pups. She had a few slurps of the bath water even though there were lots of poops floating in it!
