Do you shut your piggies upstairs at night?!
I haven't previously but with this cold weather I have started as I'm hoping it will encourage them to stay together and snuggle!

It my hutch, the girls are now indoors in c and c for the winter though. No, I never did this, they may want time apart or space.

My double hutch is in a heated shed, so they have access to the full hutch at all times. ;)

Mine are indoors at this time of year but no I never did. Actually, you can't in my hutch as u can't pull the ramp shut

I have a double level hutch set inside a 6x4' run (both in the shed). Piggies have access to the whole hutch and the run 24/7. If they want to snuggle up together they can but I'm not going tho force them, especially as they are grumpy teenage boys

I have a double hutch. I never shut my girlies inside. I think they should have a much freedom as they wish :luv:
They also prefer to be on the bottom mostly. Honey used to be shut in the cosy area of the hutch. (I have now removed the wall so they have more room upstairs) And I find that bad because she couldn't get a drink or eat pellets (the previous owners shut her in and didn't give her hay). So no I don't think you should shut them in. :)

My top area is big and they always have hay, water and pellets available.
plus I put fresh veg in as I tuck them in!
I've only been doing it a few days as I felt they may need to keep a bit warmer but I'll keep it open again from tomorrow. Just wasn't sure what was best!

Hi, I have double hight hutches they are inside for winter now. I carnt shut my top part off. Do you have a loft hutch? If you have a good sized loft hutch outside I would shut it off just over night to keep them warm add plenty of hay, warm bedding and food/water up there too. Or you can try to make the bottom layer warm and dry for them (with a proper weather cover) then leave them to roam around the whole hutch.

You can just get normal hutches like the bluebell hideaway, but where there's the big ramp gap, there is a lifty-uppy door, like a trap door.

:tu:

I'm unsure if this is a loft hutch she has or not (for others who are unsure....a hutch on stilts/the bottom part does not have a base it sits on the grass or patio) if that's the case it may be best to shut it off at night. A weather cover is a god send, if this is a loft hutch she could add a wooden base (by sitting the hutch on a larger bit of wood) then add lots of hay (if she can keep it dry) that way they could use all the hutch :)

I wouldn't shut it off then as it has a base, cover and shelter :) you could do on a extremely cold night though. Have your heard about the snuggle safe heat pads? There sort of pet safe hot water bottle that you microwave :)

Great thanks that's reassuring x My shed is in the process of being guinea pig ready so I was worrying in the meantime!
I haven't got a snuggle safe but have seen them recommended on here so think I'll get one for peace of mind!
Xx

Oh yes, my friend has that exact hutch, she closes it off at night upstairs, but I would give them the space to run around!

Shop around for the snuggle safe hun as they are £22 in most places mine was £10-£13 something Bargin I thought, you could start a thread asking if anyone knows where they are on offer, I found mine through such a thread thanks to @PiggySmitten :)

And they are £13 something at VetUK I noticed a couple of days ago - they were a real bargain from there a few months back when they were even less but I don't think its the right time of year now to get quite such a bargain. £13 is still a good price.

Mine have acces to upstairs and down, but I always find them snuggled together in the bedroom when I go in in the morning.

Today we have insulated the shed with the attic insulation bubblebacked foil, it looks abit like the inside of 'The Tardis' but its snug and draught free
