I have come to a decision - RSPCA minimum housing requirements are just not big enough for two fat Swiss pigs!

Swiss are naturally a larger breed, and given Pixie is not even a year and is over the 1kg mark and has a 1.5kg father, and Bumble is currently 1.35kg, that is a lot of pig for a 4ft x 2ft hutch...particularly when I will be insulating it come Autumn.

So I have decided to go BIGGER!

My herd of 6 are currently in the below hutch:

Which is still available for the silly price of £99. My plan is to close up the hole, use the ramp to extend the one in the herd's hutch so it is less steep, thus giving me 2 5ft x 2ft hutches...one for each of my pairs. Bumble and Pixie will then have loadsa room for them, a rabbit size chube (they get stuck in the guinea size ones, all the floof!) their hammock house and other stuffs. Dodge and Cherry will also be spoilt for room, I am planning a long tunnel for them as Cherry loves her tunnels. Big enough do we think?

Now I just have to sort the housing for my new part-Welsh herd...3 girls and one neutered boar, 3ft x 6ft flat? I would rather keep it flat if I can to avoid any territorial silliness from Snickers!

I think those are great plans :) I definitely agree that you should go by what size you think is right for them, the recommendations are just guidelines :)

I have a 6'X3' cage with four sows, and it's nice and big for them, plenty of room for their furniture and running around :) I think that'd be a good size for your herd of four :)

Lovely to hear they will be getting lots of new space! They will probably get lost mine d. I have two piggies in a two storey 5ft x 3ft hutch and one isd on the top floor the other on the bottom, they start squeaking cause they got lost so i have to move one to the other floor! LOL:)

Ha ha ha I love the comment about fat Swiss! Mine is a right little whale even though he's not particularly greedy.

I love your new hutch plans, I also particularly love that pink and blue floor you have going on. SO cute! xoxo

Ah they are my snazzy B&Q lino floor tiles, I put them on the bottom of all my wooden floors to help protect them.

I usually use black and white but went for something fancier this time lol

Love the comments about fat swiss pigs!

My 18month swiss sow is so chubby so it's nice to know the extra weight is more normal for her breed :) Her hubby is a very petite 7month old fox bless him - he never gets a look in when food is concerned!

Mine live in a 4ftx2ft hutch but have acess to a 7ft run as well - try to get the big lady to do some exercise!:)p
