So leading on from my last post ive been thinking (quite early in advance for future plans) whether to upgrade my current hutch or not. So when I've got my new piggies bonded in two pairs with my current boys in gonna need 2 separate living accomodations but they still need to be outside. I've currently got this hutch - see attached photo (and I have a thermal cover to go with it so it doesn't get cold in the winter - if it gets too cold then I bring them inside for one night). Do I get the same one and then attach a run to both or upgrade to a bigger outdoor house? I've been looking around and can't find a bigger hutch than what I've got really. I've heard you can use a shed but my garden doesn't really have the space for a big one so I'm not sure what's the best option and if my current one is big enough.....? Obviously I don't need one right now but I'm just planning for the future, so any advice would be helpful!😊

I think @Betsy has a nice cage which you can split into two separate levels so you can keep both pairs of boars apart

I have the top and bottom separated. There is a little trap door where you can put the ramp if you want to. It is the 6ft Chartwell Double Hutches. I am very pleased with it. It is well made and very solid. I also have the covers that go over it. My guinea pigs love it too. Here they all are when they first went in and they all got on and we still had Velvet.

Thats a really nice set up and your pigs are so cute! I didn't know you could have that many pigs in that kind of hutch - I thought it was 2 max, even with the stairs so they can access both levels! Is it big enough to have 2 piggies up top and 2 below but not have the stairs though? Like is that enough room for them to run a bit? I was thinking having 2 hutches so one for each pair even coz I thought piggies had to have a lot of space!

I would go for a shed every time. Sooooo much easier to clean out in winter time cos you are sheltered. You can get a small shed if your garden cant take a large one.

Good luck!

Roughly you would want 150-180cm per pair, or 180cm for a group of one male and two females.

I have a Dennis and Betsy upstairs and Christian and Meg downstairs (used to be Velvet downstairs too before I had to help her over the Rainbow Bridge) Before I got the hutch I asked the forum which hutch was best to get and it was decided that this one was the best.

Agreed!
My two boys live in my shed. They are spoilt and have an 8ft x 6ft shed (having access to around 8ft x 5ft - I have a foot or so just inside the door to be able to get in!). They have their hutch (5ft x 2ft) in the shed which I lock them in at night but during the day they have the shed floor to play in. Even a smaller shed definitely makes it easier - you can be with them in the dry for play time/cleaning etc but also they are out of the elements, if makes if a lot easier to keep them warm in winter.

Yeah I've heard that a shed it nice for space and easy to clean! I've been thinking how to do it though because my current boys can't live together - they've been fighting so they're gonna be paired off with a girl each so if I went for a shed how would I separate the two pairs?🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔Thanks for your advice tho, really helpful😊

With a piece of wood or c&c grids up the middle. When I get my new larger shed, I will be getting another pair of boars and will separate with c&c grids (2 high) so they have half the shed each

I love your video! I especially like the little guy/gal that stays munching hay at the bottom of the ramp 💕, while the others explore the hutch.
