Hi all! I feel I’ve posted so many threads on here but my piggies decided that they all needed the vet at the same time! Sorry in advance this is a longgg post
My biggest issue is my 4/5yr old sow - about two months ago she started leaking urine and was diagnosed with a UTI and given baytril (it did nothing) so she’s was x rayed and had an ultrasound and was given a new antibiotic (sulfatrim) which helped her hugely. Sadly not long after the sulfatrim course ended she got much much worse and was brought in for another x ray. The vet said she had “serious thickening of the bowel” which could be cancer but since it responded to meds we’re hoping it’s just a nasty infection. The vet also managed to remove a significant amount of bladder sludge.
She’s now on 0.25ml of sulfatrim 2x a day and 0.5ml of cat metacam 2x a day. We also got an urinary supplement by vetpro (I’ve stopped giving her her oxbow urinary supplement as I’m worried about overdosing her on glucosamine)

Sorry for such a long intro! Just thought I’d give the full background incase someone has experienced something similar. The main question is how do I reduce calcium as much as possible? Her water is filtered and she gets a small amount of oxbow pellets - is there a better pellet I should switch to? I’ve heard good reviews of the haybox pellet. She doesn’t get much veg as her cagemate has a tendency to bloat but I do give a small amount of round lettuce and green bell pepper/cucumber if it’s hot. Is there anything else I can do?
Thanks so much!

You are doing what you can - filtering water and keeping pellets limited are the main things to lower calcium.

I would encourage you to give more vegetables to her though if there is no medical reason as to why she can’t have veg.
Can you not hand feed veg to her by way if bonding time so that her cage mate can’t get veg if she isn’t to have it.
Veg in the diet provides nutrients but also fluid which will encourage good strong urination and help keep the bladder flushing through.
A diet too low in calcium can also be as bad for the bladder as one too high. The balance is still wrong but just in the opposite direction. It’s about finding a good balance.

I use pellets from Piggie Parcels now but I have used the haybox pellets in the past
