Who can skate?

I have just received my beautiful skates all the way from OZ - thank you, Glynis :smitten: :smitten: :smitten:

Has anyone got any tips on how to avoid ending up in casualty?

I'm great at it! ;) Olympic level! ;) ;)

Youn know Robbie Williams' She's the one? Well the video was ice skaters, me and Robbie! ;) LOL

Honestly ? ;D ;D

i can.
Don't lean backwards - you will fall back.
Bend your knees and lean slightly forward.
Don't put your hands anywhere near the blades.
hope that helps.

I can skate, don't forget to wear gloves, if you fall over, and you land on your hands, don't. Land on your fists, because if somebody skates next to you. CHOP! Your fingers will be off.

Hmmm and if your a new skater, skate close to the egde so you got something to hold onto if you feel insecure, until you feel you can skate with comfort. Ooooh and also, don't go REALLY fast, I find it hard to slow down haha

Thanks girls.

I never thought of another skater chopping off your fingers - eeek. I thought leaning forwards might be a good idea :)

Well I find that skating slowly to start with and like put one hand on the side and the other like out abit to keep balance then slowly edge away from the edge and skate on, thats what I do, it's easy after a while you'll get the hang of it heehee

Me and OH iceskating in 2005

OH and my best friend *trying* to iceskate - they are both very very scared of the whole thing ::) :D

They were hiring iceskates, and got those plastic ones just like the ones icehockeyplayers use them. I dont like them,
and I never was any good using them.
I got a nice pair of white leather iceskates that fit nice and snug and I am so much better with them.

Dont think its that difficult really - if you can use rollerskates then you can iceskate, pretty much.

They look like they're doing pretty well :)

They were more like trying to walk on ice rather than skating - and snail speed ::)

I have to admit my OH was doing alright as it was his first time ever. But my friend has had about as much experience as I have (which is a fair few years) and yet she still clings to the side as if her life depended on it ;)

I tried ice-skating a couple of years ago but stayed very close to the edge the whole time ;D I really fancy roller-skating tho' - the retro 4-wheel sort, none of the in-line melarkey. Apparently they do 80s roller-discos at a club in Manchester - I want to go wearing a ra-ra skirt and leg warmers haha

Not sure if this is te right advice but someone else can correct me ;)

i stay near the side, sometimes i let go but poeple always crash into me... >:( so i crash into the wall!

Shes right about dont go too fast, last time i did that i crashed into a wall and flipped onto my back hitting my elbow on the way down.

Be careful about the fingers, i was freaked out by that and still am

Also if you fall over when you get up i get up by putting one leg up and one down and i push myself up, otherwise i end up falling more.

Good Luck and Let us know how it goes :)
