Hello. During this awful heatwave we're having, what is the general opinion about placing a ice pack inside a guinea pig's cage, to help him stay cool? Freddie hates this weather, and I do not blame him! Cooling advice welcomed 😊

I put ice packs put in old socks in the run and the hutch in this weather. You could also use old plastic bottles filled with water and frozen. Does Freddie have long hair? You could try giving him a haircut too to make him feel a bit better. Betsy had her grade 4 "do" a couple of weeks ago. Now she doesn't feel like she's wearing a fur coat in on the beach in Barbados!

:agr: Lots of us do this. I freeze water in bottles and wrap them in tea towels. My boys love laying up against them

I do the same, frozen bottles and ice blocks wrapped in socks and teal towels. My piggies love them!

I’ve been wrapping freezer blocks in tea towels and placing them in the cage during the day.
The friend who is looking after the girls this week while we’re away is probably going to think I’m crazy!

I've been putting ice packs wrapped in old t-shirts and in both cages. The girls seem too love laying on them where's the boys popcorn everytime they touch them.

Yes, he needs a haircut! Will get that sorted next week. Have tried the frozen water bottle in his cage and it works a treat. Thank you. 😊

I dutifully put frozen bottles of water wrapped up carefully in the cage and run, twice a day, but they are generally ignored :(
