Can anyone give me any tips on how to do this? Is it possible to do without a sewing machine?

I have fleece, pillow cases and also a big bag of teddy stuffing that I could use.

Is there anything safe I can stitch inside to prop the front open?

I used wadding in mine, probably similar to teddy bear stuffing and the opening does seem to stay open if its quite thick at that end. I know you can use foam or boning too but I never did. I used a sewing machine for the first part but had to hand stich a lot of it because it was too thick for my machine to handle so it would be no problem to do the whole lot by hand. Just remember piggies don't care about straight lines thank goodness :(|)

I made some and hand stitched them. I didn't use a filling so they were quite floppy but you could use the filling you were talking about.
Even if the opening is quite floppy guinea pigs can use there noses to find there way inside.

For the front open thingy you could part stuff (but well stuffed) the front say half or so then it would create a sort half hoop if you know what I mean.

Good luck hun and you can hand stitch almost anything.

Wow thank you, I am excited now! :o:))

I may even just make it with a pillow case cos I don't want to ruin the fleeces I have. I will have to get more fabric and do loads! :(|)

I made my snuggle sac in super quick time and it looks really good, just one problem. Hoggle went in it and couldn't turn around to get out - I didn't even check it would be big enough but it really did look it. grrrr")

I will post a pic tonight anyway! :(

I have started making snugglies with the trial and error (currently mostly error) method. http://www.theguineapigforum.co.uk/showthread.php?t=44500
This thread has pictures of my first attempt. I cut the fabric with an A4 paper for a pattern, but added maybe 5 cm extra around the edges. These don't have anything to prop them open, I've just rolled them.

Yesterday I experimented with foam, but I couldn't sew over the foam because it wouldn't glide through the machine. I think elastic would work so I might try that tonight... I'm also getting some dacron type wadding to try out beds which I think Martha and Bo would love.

I have taken some pics of how to sew the wadding in and will post them when I have a moment. My top tip is that they need to be much bigger than you think: cut out at least 12inches by 12inches.

Looks good, by the way!
