Hi I am new to this site and have got to say I am bessotted with all the bits you all have for your guinea pigs. My 2 "boys" are dearly loved by me and my 2 daughters but must admit there cage is so boring compared to all yours. I dont have a huge amount of space so I know this is part of the problem but since joining the other night I have been looking into fleece instead of wood shavings and have also ordered them a hammock and cosy tunnell from someone on here so I am looking forward to receiving them:)). I noticed the other night that someone posted a photo on here of a cage very similiar to the one I have and they had added another level on top but I cant find the thread:{. Basically I am just looking for ideas to make my cage more interesting so any help and advice would be greatly appreciated;) I am going to try and post a link to the cage I have so fingers crossed it works :...

that's a little small for 2. I have a Nero4 with a mezzanine floor which I made myself. I tied some C&C grids to one end, made a ramp with an old wooden sehlf and used a carpet tile for flooring and voila!

Please dont say that I checked with pets at home when I bought it and they said it would be fine for 2:0 I also have an outside run for them but only put them out when we are in the garden with them. If I start to look into expanding slightly higher do you think that would be enough room for them? thanks for the reply x

Pets at home ALWAYS say their cages are big enough - [*]because they want to sell them[/*]

By they are not big enough according to RSPCA size recommendations.

Also boars tend to require more space.

Pet's at home know very little about animal's but don't be upset i had guinea's before and didn't even know they ate hay! you will probably find as they get bigger they will look to big for the cage also boar's can fight when they hit their teen's if they don't have enough room. Have you considered a c and c cage they are cheap easy to make and you can fit them into any space and add level's
This cage cost me about £32

I got extra and now it is this big (but i have 8 sow's)

Hi

This is the minimum for 2
http://www.zooplus.co.uk/shop/small_pets/hutches_cages/rabbit_cage/120_cm_cages/14083

http://www.zooplus.co.uk/shop/small_pets/hutches_cages/rabbit_cage/120_cm_cages/83034

The C&C cage like above are great and can work out good value. Sadly I can't accomadate a C&C so have to use commercial cages.

If you have already bought it I would suggest printing this out http://www.rspca-online.co.uk/guineas/needtoknow/accommodation/
and asking them for a refund as the one you have been sold does not meet the guidelines.
The more people do this, then hopefully they will stop selling inadequate cages.

*Edit* Don't feel bad, this is P@H fault and not yours xx

grrrrgrrrr wish I had found this website a few months ago before I bought it but just thought that PAH knew their stuff but obviously not. Do you think It will be fine if I add to it a bit? Just looked in my cage and I swear they are given me dirty looks now or am I just being paranoid lol x

Woohoo these look fantastic. I keep my boys in our hall so I have a long length under the window where our cage is at the moment that I suppose I could use. My only problem would be because these are open as I have a 3 year old daughter who I can only imagine would probably want to spend more time in here more than the boys themselves:)) but it is something I will look into. Just showed my OH your photo and he has just given me a dirty look and said "dont even think about it" can you tell that he doesnt share the same love as me and my daughters do for our boys lol x

Thanks bailey for your info. I do have one of these indoor runs that I use for when I clean the cage out and put play things in to let them run about. I dont have cats or dogs but do have a 3 year old daughter who I would imagine is more scarier than any animal:)) I feel bad now with my boys in that cage I just thought they would be fine as that was the one I was told suited them but I suppose the important thing is that I am willing to do something about it to change it for them and until I get something else arranged I will just need to make sure the get out more in the garden or into the living room in the other pen they have x

Bloody hell just noticed the price they charge, no wonder they wanted to make a sale.
Do you have any other pets? Could you put something like this http://www.zooplus.co.uk/shop/small_pets/hutches_cages/runs_fencing/pens_with_racks/14521 sound the cage with a little ramp like this http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/RABBIT-GUINEA...et_Supplies_Small_Animals&hash=item35b23e56e0
if you don't have cats/dogs to give them a bit more space?

Awwww I bet she loves them :)) One of my earliest memories is of my Mum's guinea pig Pepe x) I think that must be where the love comes from for them.

Exactly :)) , just think how many people buy that cage or smaller and through ignorance more than anything just keep their piggies in it, maybe without even getting free time out of the cages :(
Pets at Home are a massive company in the UK so why would most people doubt what they get told by them?
When I got Bailey they told us he'd be fine with a rabbit for company (luckily for him & Tia not long after I found out they really shouldn't be living together).
They really are in a great position to improve animal welfare but I guess they are a business after all and money is the most important thing to them - which is why they will never get a penny of mine again*.
Sorry went off on a little rant there.

*disclaimer unless in a complete & utter emergency, then the furbabies needs come first.

Pets at Home should really use their position to change things for the better. If they aren't going to stop selling animals they could at least improve the information they give to their customers. Sure if they sell a bigger cage, which suits the piggy better they get more money. The better the information they give people, they more people will realise how much it costs to get a pair of piggies and what is actually involved in looking after them. It may stop people buying them on a whim, or for their children etc.
They sold me a Ferplast 100 with my pair. In fact there was an offer on this cage, but not any other sizes. Why not have the offer on a suitable sized cage mallethead
The cage was fine for a couple of weeks whilst they were very small, but as soon as you see how much they grow you soon realise it's no good at all :(
But they really should look at their corporate responsibility policies.

It will need to be bigger for when they get older so maybe you could buy some grids and attach them to the cage. Or make a cage completly out of c and c grids and sell on the PAH cage.:)

I managed to pick up a pack of 23 grids of ebay the other day and also have my coroplast so I was thinking of adding another level to my cage. I am trying to draw up a plan of the best way to do it and also getting loads of ideas from here. Unfortunatly one of my boys had to get an abcess burst:)>>> by the vet and is now on an anti biotic for a week before he returns to the vet to see if he needs anymore treatment. so I have put all my attention onto him at the moment but as soon as I start my project I will post lots of photos;)

Can I ask what vet you used? Did they do the neutering?

I do hope your boys fighting fit soon.

I used the pdsa but I am a big scaredy cat and Knew what was involved with an abcess so my kind brother took him for me and said it was one of the most disgusting things he has ever seen:)>>> I never asked about neutering because I have 2 boys But I am back next wednesday and can ask about it for you if you like?

No that's ok was just curious to know who did the neutering. I think I know where the PDSA is in Glasgow well the main one :).

I do hope your boy get's better soon. x>>

Sorry to say, that's much to small for 2 piggies. Never listen to pet shops, they lie and generally know nothing of animal welfare. pow-pow

The way to go if you have limited space is levels. Firstly, I would buy some grids from ebay, and started building a c&c cage (cubes&chloroplast). They can be really simple to make and you can add as many big levels as you like! (And each level would be the size of your cage right now). :<>

Good luck. :)

Best regards,
Isabella, Tallulah, Penelope & Lily.

Thanks for the info but as soon as I posted it someone told me it was too small so I have just been making sure my 2 have had loads of play in there run outside. I managed to get coroplast and 23 grids so I am going to be building another level to my cage as soon as scooby has recovered from having his abcess removed :)

http://www.petsathome.com/shop/rabb...a-pig-and-dwarf-rabbit-cage-by-ferplast-15992 this is the cage i've got, it takes up the same floor space but with the extra level gives them more room to play, i also deck mine out with stuff from these sites,
