My 4 month old guinea pig started making a weird chirping sound on Saturday, and last night her breathing became weird, her sides are expanding rapidly. She keeps eating the puppy pads and I'm scared she can't digest it and is getting sick. I'm planning to take her to the vet once they open, but I was wondering if anyone has any experience with any of this?

Chirping (I assume you mean like a bird) is something that's not common among guinea pigs, and we're not sure what it means. As for eating the puppy pads, you need to put them out of reach as she shouldn't be munching on them.

Does her breathing seem more laboured than normal?

Yea, the breathing thing started roughly 12hrs ago, I gave her critical care hoping it might help her body digest it so it leaves her system. I won't know anything until I get her to the vet later

Okay. Let us know how you get on. Is she a lone pig or has a friend?

We got her as a companion for our older piggie, Panic is about 14 months and Spice is about 10 months younger. They get along fine, but I separated them for the night just to make sure Spice doesn't have anything possibly contagious

You shouldn’t separate them as if she does have something contagious then Panic has already been exposed. I would introduce them to each other again.

Hi!

It sounds like your piggies is bloating. Good that you are planning to see a vet as soon as you can!
Please have a read of this link below that gives you all the information of what you can do at home to support your piggy during this time as well as what to ask your vet for. Severe bloat can kill.
Digestive Disorders: Diarrhea - Bloat - GI Stasis (No Gut Movement) And Not Eating

Chirping is the greatest piggy mystery. Nobody has yet found the key to a fully satisfactory explanation.

Please don't separate, especially not any youngsters; it only adds added stress and lowers the immune system.

She's not having a problem eating, and I've been giving her critical care a lot since sunday evening. The soonest we can get her to the vet is friday. My town has one vet clinic that has an exotic pet vet, but she's only there twice a week. Spice seems a lot better, barely chirping and her chest is kind of calmer and she went back up .30oz the last day and a half. I'm hoping her breathing gets completely back to normal by her appointment. I'm just spending extra time with her until then and already put her back with Panic. My boyfriend told me I was over reacting
