I washed my guineas yesterday, was so hot thought it was a good time to do it!

anyway, cloud my Rex had a nice bath lovely and calm, in fact she was purring away, when i got her out she started to convulse, well i thought this is it! it lasted for 30seconds i suppose although it felt like minuets, then she got up staggered then trotted off,

Kept a close eye on her but she is tip top this morning,

Can guineas have fits like that?

Hi Emma,

Oh no sorry to hear that! Could it be fungal though? I've read pigs can have fits when they have a fungal infection. http://www.oginet.com/pgurney/fits.htm

Hope someone with knowledge of this can help, you must of been out of your mind! Hope Cloud is ok. :smitten:

she is very scurfy on her back ? think i will get OH to take her to the vets :-\,

Oh poor Cloud 0:) Sending get well wishes O0

Guinea pigs can and do have fits although I don't think it is very common. It could have been a reaction to whatever you bathed her with. Had she been bathed before?

I agree with you that a Vet visit would be the best action. Good luck O0

yes she has had baths in the past and has never appeared stressed i mean it only comes to her tummy, and i didn't use shampoo or soap just a good fresh water bath,

Keeping my fingers crossed it was just a "one off" thing. Hopefully the Vet will give her a clean bill of health O0

hoping all goes well at the vet :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: you must have been terrified when cloud was having a fit, really hoping cloud gets the all clear O0 could it have been something like epilepsy if piggies can have them? please keep us posted sending hugs and healing vibes :smitten: :smitten: :smitten:

have been to the vets he said she is ok, he said her skin is dry but she has not nipped herself to be mites,, he said he can do a blood test but it involves putting her to sleep and collecting the blood from the main vein in her neck,

I just don't want to do that to her :(

bob has had a fit before, last year. he took about an hour to stop twitching, rushed him to the emergency vets then he was fine when he got there! never did find what caused it and hes never had one since :o

glad she is doing ok
