I just took out my guinea pig Brownie and noticed some bubbly sounds coming from every every few minutes or so and I heard her fart maybe 2 times. She is eating perfectly fine. I just gave her 4 small pieces of red bell pepper and 2 baby carrots. She ate it all with the exception of half a carrot. She is also eating hay. She literally just pooped a largish piece of poop. It looked like 2 pellets stuck together. Is it normal? If she has stomach problems, why is she eating? I am feeding her red bell peppers every day. I cut about 4-5 pieces of bell pepper maybe like and half inch by a half inch. I'm also giving her romaine lettuce often. Yesterday, she had three pieces of romaine lettuce ripped off. I give her about 2 baby carrots everyday starting 2 days ago. She is still making quiet bubbly sounds. She also keeps curling her body in an upside down U and bend her head down to lick or scratch her belly area. I don't know if it is relevant to her being gassy though. I think she does have gas problems since she keeps emitting those weird gassy sounds so what can I do about it? I don't think its a major problem that I have to take her to the vet and besides my parents wouldn't agree with sending her to the vet anyway since my mom recently spent a large amount of money on my deceased guinea pig, Ginger.

If she is having gas or gut problems you need to take her off the veg until its slowed down. That much carrot is not good for her either as they are high in sugar and should not be fed everyday. Keep a close eye on her stomach for signs of bloating. Keep her on hay and pellets and water for a couple of days and when its calmed down start adding veg one at a time to make sure its not a reaction to a particular veg

What are the signs of bloating? Will her belly area become larger? Are there any other signs besides that? Also, she can still eat all the hay she wants right?

yes, carrots are not that good... too rich in sugars which make gas when in contact with cereals (of pellets for example). This is the same for us humans: sugar+cereals=gas.
Maybe you should cut off vegs. I would replace them with grass, which is not a veg... grass is totally different; it is rich of fibres and piggies' guts are able to digest it. But I would wait for some days, until the gas is over.
Be aware of pellets composition: if it has molassa (=sugar) and flours, the gut might not heal...
Moreover, there are some piggies (and some person, too) who simply are intolerant to some food. Next days, when the belly will recover, avoid all the sugars (also red bell peppers have sugars); wrong bacteria into the gut love sugars and live thanks to them...

@Aryel Is this something that has just started recently? Have you fed her anything different to her usual food/veg? Depending on the above it could be a few things.

But as you mention the bubbling along with the odd shaped poops I would guess at stomach upset. As mentioned above I would take her off veg for a day or two until her stomach settles and poops return to normal.

Then I would slowly reintroduce the veg one and a time. Like the others mentioned it would be worth reviewing her diet and changing a few things. She is getting quite a large quantity of only a few things. There is a good thread on the forum about food. I'm typing on my phone at the moment so I can't link directly to it.

I don’t think she'll bloat if she's still moving around okay and is eating and pooping. But it's always worth watching for. The bloat I've seen normally starts with the pig looking uncomfortable and progresses with their sides getting bigger and looking like they're in pain. They usually stop eating and pooping too.

Yes she will need an unlimited supply of hay. It sounds like the gas might be caused by the carrot as it's something you have only just started giving to her.

Bop her gently and use a vibrating hand massanger or back of vibrating toothbrush on her tummy.

If you massage your piggies tummy with a vibranting toothbrush, or gentle do it by your fingers.
I also think heat is good.
Carrots should only be once or twice a week, you can feed romaine lettuce, or gem lettuce. Although I find a baby leaf salad is really good. Apart from that there's good advice above.

It is such a shame that some people look on piggies as disposable. Your piggy must be taken to a vet if needed I believe that is a law. It comes under neglect. Have you got any cats or dogs, if so why are they Going to the vet & not your piggy? Think all you can do is wait until your mum is in a good mood & ask her then. I think maybe you can beat this with our help.At least your piggy hasn't gone into full bloat yet. There is probably loads of excellent advice on this thread, if you tap her tummy does it sound hollow?

I honestly think it sounds more like a disestive issue Tia and as the original poster hasn't posted for a while I think the pig must be better. If it were bloat it would have been a lot more prominent and serious by now so they would have been back to ask advice.

It is very difficult when you have to rely on others to pay for vet visits, but if this got serious then I would imagine the parents would take the piggy.

Hopefully we get an update soon.

I said that Tap her tummy to see if it feels hollow. Like you say I thought it digestive problems. I was hoping the toothbrush and massaging would move any windin there
