Good morning everyone when I woke up this morning I was playing with my pigs and my guinea pig Lulu sounded like she was gurgling instead of a low squeak don't know if that's the right word to describe it but she's never made the sound and it kind of reminds me of when were sick and we try to take a breath in and it has that weird sound in our chest. I wasn't sure if it was the same for guinea pigs. I wasn't sure if this was a sign of pneumonia or having a cold she's eating, running around and acting normal but I can definitely hear the sound that she's making it. Thank God my pics I've never been sick so I wasn't sure if someone could help me out because I live in Massachusetts and I've already called vets and there's a lot of places that don't take exotic pets and the ones that do you have to wait quite a while PLEASE HELP.

Guinea pigs dont get viral colds like we do. Any breathing issue or potential URI (upper respiratory infection) needs to be checked by a vet. A URI is a serious condition and always needs to be ruled out first and given antibiotics if necessary

Please switch from the routine weekly weight checks and instead weigh her daily so you can more closely monitor her hay intake and step in with support feeding if there is any weight loss due to reduced hay intake (you cannot judge hay intake by eye).

Your piggy will need to be seen by a vet if you are concerned she is unwell

You may have to expand your search, especially on a Saturday ... Tufts in North Grafton would certainly do piggies, and they have emergency services, so they should be able to see Lulu today even. It may be a bit of a trek for you, though.

Sorry it took so long to get back to everybody so I found a vet that took Lulu she ended up having a upper bacterial infection but they gave her medicine for 7 days and she's doing great so thanks everybody:love:
