Sorry for being dramatic, but I'm very sure I have ringworm but I'm not certain. This is on my chest where my female white Piggy, boo used to crawl up and scratch when scared if I remember rightly. As soon as it was suggested on the forum that it could be ringworm I was very strict with hygiene, however I think this happened just before. Another treatment was give for the sow (an antibiotic and anti fungus/mite stuff which I don't think included ringworm) but she appears to be much better and it appears to have cleared and hair is growing back) please see earlier post about scab under eye). However Boo was never treated for ringworm.. does she need to be treated for this and do the others? (Despite her making a recovery) I've had this what I believed to be a bite mark by a mosquito for a week/two weeks but there was never a ring round it.. the ring has only just appeared the last day or so. I have noticed parts of my skin appear dry and flaky but I never suspected ringworm fully as the treatment she received was not for ringworm and it appears to have worked...
Please note I don't want to put her though anymore stress as she is a very stressed guinea pig and going to the vets and having that injection was quite traumatic for her. received_887568945106741~2.webp
Many thanks,

Hi!

If you suspect that you have ringworm, please see a gp.

Also be aware that some substances can temporarily suppress ringworm (like ivermectin or an antibiotic) but will not cure it.

Yes I am going to tomorrow, it might not be but the ring looks very typical of ringworm. Do I need to treat my Guinea pig/pigs for ringworm? Even if the other treatments have worked?
And thank you

If your patch is found to be ringworm, then I would make sure that your piggies have at least got a fungal dip or bath (with you wearing gloves!) to make sure that you haven't accidentally transferred any spores to them since this patch has come up.
A lot of human ringworm is actually transferred by automatic scratching/rubbing and touching other areas. Exactly the same holds true for any highly contagious bugs, whether that is fungal spores or coronavirus...

But if you have ringworm, you can then infect your piggies again. All it takes is one spore getting to the skin and 10-14 days later you have another ringworm patch. :(

Okay thank you, if it wasn't for joining this forum, and ringworm being suggested I would have never known what it was (as it certainly wasn't suggested by the vet when I took Boo to see her) and I would have presumed I had a mosquito bite! I don't have any other patches (yet). I'm hoping I have not passed anything on, as by sheer coincidence I haven't handled the sows for just over week in order to help them to settle in to their new homes/reduce stress especially for the newbies! I hate to see them so worried so I don't want them to associate me always grabbing them so have been going back to basics. Was due to have a good handling and weighing session tomorrow but will give it a miss at least until the ringworm goes.
Many thanks again,

I went to the pharmacy in the end and they gave me a cream I'm going to hopefully get an appointment at the GP on Monday, as it's shut during the weekend. Pretty sure it is unfortunately! Just giving the cage a thorough clean now (with gloves)
Many thanks :)

Ringworm in a human is easily treated so dont worry... just be careful to have your own towels and dont use one on the patch you have then elsewhere...
