I have a 3 tier hutch, and when I first had them, they would venture down the ramp to the middle floor and scurry about for a time then come back up to the top. They have never to my knowledge gone down the bottom of the hutch as food I have put in there has never ben touched or their are no droppings. Now it's only Gordon who will go to the middle level and Blair wont even go down the ramp, even though they put in their run for a few hours daily I worry about him not having enough to do whilst he is in there. Would a large, 4-5ft single storey be better than what I have now, so I can put more in on the one level? I want it to be varied and interesting and I don't think they have that?! Also can you buy a 5ft hutch and where would you sell your used one? Ebay?!
Has anyone swapped their storey hutch for a larger single?!

If you feel that it isn't big enough and interesting enough then you're probably right and you'd feel better with a single storey one I think. I'm sure they are getting enough exercise with their run and everything, but you have to feel good about their hutch too :)

Thankyou- I think I just needed confirmation of what I was thinking- I've just seen a single storey 6ft on ebay which I think would be better for the two of them

That's a nice size for a single storey and I'll bet they would be much happier like that.

I have been so lucky in that every pig of mine has used ramps but I guess they don't suit everyone.

I think if you have the room that a bigger single story makes most sense. Although my pigs live indoors, they definitely prefer the longer 'lap space' since they've moved into the C & C.

Looking forward to pictures. :(|)

Thanks guys, I'm going to have to chop a few bushes down in the garden but then it's never looked like a chelsea flower display anyway but I think i'm settle on the 6ft hutch, I've seen lots of interesting toys, logs, branches, tubes I can put in it too! Now where did I put that credit card?!:))

Aww, I know what you mean. I bought the Primrose Cottage from P@H not long after I had my piggies, thinking that they will love to go up the ramp to top floor etc. Set up the hutch a month ago, as the warm weather was starting, and put them in the top in the little arched way hideaway, with food, hay and water outside the hideaway and some hay inside. As soon as they stepped out, they kind of stretched they're bodies to twice their length, lol, (was soo funny), as they tried to walk past the gap to downstairs. They were not impressed. They hardly came out of the hideaway and I thought, oh, what was the point in buying that, (hubby did say at the time mind, lol).

I've since put them on the ground floor and they are fine. Have encouraged them to go up the ramp with veg on it, but nope, they won't go up.

Do you think it's worth persevering, or just leaving them downstairs, or get a single storey?

Sorry, I hope you don't think I've hijacked your thread, I haven't, honestly, just understand how you feel after buying something so nice, then to find they aren't all that fussed. xx :)
