I don't seem to be getting along with the fleece anymore. I have just bought them a liberta 150 from petplanet.co.uk because I'm not getting along with the grids.

So I think I will switch to wood shavings. I mean I have a HUGE! bale sat in the garage that has just been opened for my hamster Noodles, but she passed away last night. So at least if I change my mind I won't have wasted any money.

What do people think about woodshavings vs fleece?

I use wood shavings under soft barley straw, always have, tried fleece but with 4 pigs in one cage it need cleaning everyday, so always reverted back to shavings and straw, never had any health issues and compared to all the beddings I have tried this is the easiest for me, lasts the longest.

With the 3 of mine being fully grown now, they do soooo much pooh by the 2nd day, I feel like I need to change them out again.
I think at least wood shavings would soak it up, and you can just take those bits out daily and replace. Then do a full clean out once a week.
I think I will get on with it a bit more. It seems like too much with the fleece. I like it and everything, and I think it makes the cage look really tidy when it's cleaned out, but then you put the pigs in. Lol.

Where do you get your barley straw from? Can they eat that as well?

Mine eat it and it never does them an harm, I usually get the big bales from the range for 3.99 and they do 4 - 5 cages easily, or sometimes they have some supreme science soft bedding in QD and I get that.

Shavings I get from home bargains, the oblong blocks are. 49p each and I use 2 per cage.

Ta! I have a GIANT bale from a local pet store that cost £10 so that should last a while.
They do need more hay though. I think they're running out. Will try the barley straw.

I usually get my hay from the range too, they are the same size bale!
