So recently I got two New Guinea pigs! They are both 2, boys. I have a four year old piggy named Toby. Long story short, other pigs smelled horrible and were doing something I was told is called “musking” and was told that even if they were caged together for so long they weren’t getting along.

So I seperated the nicer piggy with Toby because they seem to have been bonding very well. Recently I noticed toby steering clear of him for the most part, and I witnessed jim multiple times trying to kick toby out of his hut and wiggling his butt. Is this normal behavior? There is no way I can get another pig for toby and fit 4 cages in my Tiny Philly apartment! I would have to surrender the other two. I do not want to do this, but I want what’s best for my first boy. Thanks for all your help!

Make sure you have two of everything. Food dish, hideys, water bottle, and hay areas. As long as they aren't drawing blood, leave them to work it out. Rumble strutting is what that is. It's normal. They are showing dominance.

Update: now it seems like he’s getting a little aggressive with Toby who’s my first😭

What is he doing to be aggressive?
Chasing, mounting, rumblestrutting is all normal dominance behaviour and nothing to worry about.
Attacking and causing blood to be drawn is not good and means that they won’t bond and need to be separated.

He’s like nipping at him, he’s caused scratches and whatnot. He bites him but no blood has been drawn from that. My older pig is afraid of him

I think your boy can be by himslef if other boys are nearby. Instead of giving him stress, I would just separate them but keep them close by.

My boy Finn is by himself in a cage, and close by is Lara in her cage by herself. I was given Lara so I had no choice but to care for Lara. Both my piggies are centrally located in the house where they are always involved in all activities going on in the house.

Both my piggies are aware there is another piggy in the room close by, and I haven't seen any kind of depression from either one of them. They are eating very well, and play well when set lose in the playpen. They both do popcorning regularly when they are happy when in their cages and in the playpen. They visit the playpen daily but at separate times.
