Hey,

I want a new/bigger hutch for my piggies. They are at the hormonal age and really do need more space. I keep asking my dad whether he will build a new two tiered hutch for them, so they can use the ramp to go from floor to floor. He says that they won't go up the ramp unless they had seen it since they were born. He says that it would be a waste of time and money.

Now, here is the 'help!' part ;)

I need you to send in pigtures/pigeos (videos) of your piggies using ramps. If you do, you will get a special Virtual Hug from me, and Tobii and Rocket will love you forever, as this is all for their new hutch. Your help will be much appreciated :D

Deanna xx

I removed my ramp too because the pigs didnt use it...I'm not sure many do. However I'm sure with the amount of people on here there must be someone who has ramps that are used x

My piggies are coming up to 5 months old and have just started using the ramp and as I have placed a tunnel so its not so scary, there is a thread with pictures under Housing, called Ramps - Need Help

I just took these videos now (at 8pm) so they're a bit dark...

My girls only got their new hutch last weekend and they never had ramps before. Now they all go up and down them without a problem - although my 3 who are under 1 year old have adapted better and my 3 who are about 2 who regard them more as a necessary evil! It can work tho... I had to put a brick under the bottom to make it less steep and tack some extra lats on so they had more to grip on to. I think Ryli's tunnel looks excellent tho and will be getting them for my girls soon so the older ones can be a bit more confident.

Thankyou for the videos! I appreciate it so much! I love your piggies, so cute :<> I love the way they scamper up and down..

I now longer have a ramp because I had issue cleaning underneath the ramp/second floor with a bad back. My guinea pigs didn't grow up with a ramp but all used it (even the older ones). And when Zoe was heavily pregnant she still used it. She actually ran upstairs and gave birth upstairs.

When I first added the ramp, I made sure it was covered with something that would give them a bit of grip. And I put a trail of food going all the way up and always had some special treats at the top level - it soon became a favourite spot and although it was only 2 cubes long and 1 cube wide we sometimes found quite a few piggies up there at the same time.

Anyway I will have a look for some pictures/videos a bit later...

Mine love the ramps. I had two boarders in a ramped hutch last week, they had never seen a ramp before. Within two days they were wizzing up and down. Sorry no photos, but tell your dad from me he is talking Tommy Rot! Good luck. (maybe don't tell him, don't want to upset him. lol) x

Here a video of a baby guinea pig running down the ramp:

They're not the best pictures/videos but couldn't find any others.

I used to have a C&C indoor run with a ramp. Mine loved it. Took them a few times to get used to it but soon they were chashing eachother up and down it. I've got pictures somewhere but all my stuff is packed up in boxes just now so can't find them. I think it can depend on how steep it is if they'll use it or not.

I have four males that have a three tier hutch indoors, they use the ramps all the time, but I think the reason they use it is because I put carpet on the ramps. I have noticed that if the ramp is made of wood they won't use it, but i put carpet on it and they love to use it. I think its the texture and softness of the material.

lol cute videos! :)

I'm sorry as well. My gps loved their ramp too, but I had to get rid of it as it was made of wood and began to go bad. (they love to chew on it :p) But they would go up to their second floor. Now they have one big floor area for themselves. :)) Good luck though!

Brought mine home at six weeks and they used the ramp the first day! They go outside on warm days now where the ramp is quite steep and they both scamper up and down...Sorry dont have any pictures. Show your dad all our positive messages and hopefully he will build one for you
