ive got a poorly piggie called rudi, since he's been ill he has become a lot more tame, I feel like he's bonded with me because I've been syringe feeding him now for nearly a week, he runs up to me, he sits in my hand, he will sit in my jacket pocket whilst I walk around the house, I feel like we've both become attached to each other. like I said, lately he's been really poorly, and I was wondering if he was in pain do you think he would let me know? would be give me a sign that he wasn't happy? or would he do the classic Guinea pig thing of pretending he's fine until it's too late to do anything? I'm taking him to a specialist on Friday, and I'm hoping for the best, but I'm not expecting it! but if he's not showing any signs of being in pain or unhappy do I continue to do what I'm already doing or am I being selfish by putting him through it all?

Hi leahp1903, sorry to hear about Rudi being not so well recently. May I ask what exactly is wrong with him, what symptoms is he displaying?

You sound like you are doing a fantastic job already and there is not much more you can do than what you already are, I would wait until Friday when you see the vet, he sounds like he is really appreciating your love and comfort so I would definitely carry on giving him extra special attention, the syringe feeding is a fantastic thing to do also if he's struggling to eat or drink by himself. I've found that love can sometimes heal, it can at least help, if you give a sick piggy more love they will feel generally happier and sometimes they can brighten up, it makes life not feel so rubbish for them. You are not selfish at all, he will definitely let you know when he cannot go on any more, but at the moment he is definitely fighting and showing you that he does not want to give up, so keep going.

Good luck, I hope Rudi gets better soon. :)

he lost half his body weight in a couple of days, and he had an eye ulcer which with drops 4 times a day has cleared up, the vet said she though his teeth were a bit too long, so once his eye had cleared up she wanted me to take him back to see about his teeth but her initial feeling was he had stopped eating because of the pain from his eye, but because he still isn't really eating by himself, but I took him to the vets yesterday, and she said it could be nerve damage in his mouth, but she wasn't sure so I'm going back to see a specialist tomorrow. there's been so many things flying around because I've made sure I've seen different vets each time for a different opinion, one said brain damage, then nerve damage, then his teeth are too long, his teeth are fine, I'm just not sure what's going on. I'm hoping I get given good news, but I won't be holding my breath for it

sadly rudi had to be put to sleep this morning, I'm completely heart broken, and now I have his son who was his bonded friend going mad wondering where his daddy has gone
