Hello,

I am a new at owning guinea pigs and i had gotten my first one last year. He was an unknown age adult male guinea pig and i love him to bits. Yesterday i bought a 6 week old in hopes that he would have a friend. Today i put them in a neutral area as a play date to see their temperament were. The little 6 week old was super dominant in with constant rumbling and mounting. The older one didn't like this and chattered a bit (not the whole time). Eventually they started chasing and trying to mount each other. The baby tried to mount the bigger ones face and the older one bit the babies privates. There was a lot of blood i freaked out and called my husband and we rushed him to the vet where he is at now. I am stressed and been crying and was wondering if there was anything i could do. I do have them in separated cages and acted as fast as i could. Is there anything i could do so this doesn't happen again?

Aww bless you I am very sorry I don't have any advice as I have never experienced this! Most of the feeds on here say not to introduce again after a fight I think :( maybe put them in the same room so they can chat and get to know through the bars. As he's just a baby maybe he was a bit to excited an boisterous. My girls met a few times before a final introduction before they moved into their cage together. We didn't speak when we were introducing them and just left them to it ( we were watching them tho ). It's just trial and error I think and it's such a tense situation I can't imagine how you felt ! Hope everything is okay ❤❤

Yeah i will keep them away from each other physically until the baby heals and hope they get use to each other in their own cages. I really wanted my boy to have a friend but with how dominant the baby was trying to be they might not share a cage for a long while yet. Thank you anyways! The vet said it should be fine and wont need any antibiotics, he just needs to heal. I wont introduce them again alone cuz that was super stressful.

Me and my partner were both stressed and our girls got on fine! Hope your feeling okay lots of love x

I put a 4 month in with my 9 month old. Both boars, I separated them, came back from shopping & the little one went through a space in the grids & introduced himself. So we left them in together. I had about 7-10 days where they were exactly like you said, chasing bonking. The big one kept pulling fur out but luckily no cuts. Except from the chattering going from the little one.
