Okay update: Wilbur just tried to eat some lettuce and when I looked at him to see what he was doing he ran into his shoe-box.

Anyway, I got a Guinea Pig four days ago. I named it Wilbur 'so far I've been calling it a he but I don't know it's gender yet.' Anyway, I think he/she is sick.

Here's a video that I posted of Wilbur: [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XXqgfV1g08Q"]My Guinea Pig's strange noises - YouTube[/ame]

(Just so you can get a sample of his noises.) I tried to call the vet but they're closed today, when my mom is home tomorrow she'll be able to call the vet. I'm seriously worried....

I gave Wilbur some lettuce and changed his water.... I should probably clean his cage tomorrow. I will do that. Since it'll be five days since I put in the bedding.

Anyway, I want to know: Should I get another guinea pig? I don't know if Wilbur is a boy or a girl or not, but when I take him/her to the vet I will ask its gender and then I'll try to ask my parents....

Maybe if I can convince them... I really don't want Wilbur to be all alone and make me be a bad owner, I want him/her to have a happy life.

*Kay now he's/she's eating the lettuce which is good...*

Maybe they are just trying to get situated?

Also in that YouTube video you can see in the description that I put 'yeah my guinea pig just sneezed I think he's sick' because right when I was editing that video he made that weird noise again like a sneezing noise.

I have two bigger cages, heck, one could be for THREE guinea pigs if I had to.

Though my dad would kill me. So I might be able to only get one more.

Please help me?

Hi,if you think maybe your piggy is sick then take it to the vets when your mum comes home, you said shes back tomorrow,or get your dad to take you or the person whos looking after you while your mums away,(if your not old enough to be left on your own) I'm not sure how old you are......
I couldnt really hear anything only little noises that all guinea pigs make, not unless i missed somthing?,they make lots of diffrent sounds and can somtimes churp like a bird, try not to worry please take your piggy to the vet if you are still worried, they will be able to tell you what sex it is as well as give your piggy a health check, i think theres a link on this forum that tells you how to sex your guinea pig, and theres loads online,
Dont get another guinea pig until you know what sex it is otherwise you might land up with alot more piggies! And also best to make sure your piggy is well as if it is poorly you might infect the new piggy younhave just got, i hope this helps :)

If you are concerned over the health of your pig a vet check would be very wise. Judging by the noise 'he' is making I would be concerned that he has a URI - upper respiratory infection. Please do not get another pig until this has been treated or ruled out by a vet.

The vet will also be able to help if you are not able to determine the sex of your own guinea pig. This is vital before you consider getting a potential cagemate.

From your opening post it is unclear if you are feeding anything other than lettuce, which should only be fed in moderation as it can cause soft poops. Hay should make up approx 80% of the diet with guinea pig food and veggies making up the rest. Please check out the Food Section of the forum for lots of good advice on what to feed - all the sections have 'sticky' threads at the top that have loads of great info for all owners.

:red oh i forgot to say with lettuce dont give it too much, with iceburg lettuce, you know the light green really crunchy one,its bad for them, other leafy types are ok i think' but again only a small amount, some veg they can have are carrots, brochali, cauliflour, kale, bell pepers, cucumber, baby tomatoes and apples but dont give it very often as its acidic and can make your piggy mouth sore, again not to much, banana again not very often and only about a slice, oranges, same not huge amounts,
These are just a few items you might find in the fridge I'm sure theres a good food bad food list on the forum as well as on line + utube......
