OMG I only have to have it on a low setting and my shed is toasty warm! :) I really think the insulation helps too, I am not worried at all about them as they are snug as a bug in a rug! :)

Oh I know how you feel! I have one too. I don't have it on yet as the piggies have heatpads - they are plug ins and stay warm all the time - but I love my oil filled radiator. :)

I know what you mean. My piggles live indoors so I don't have to worry about them getting cold but the bunnies live outside. My oldest doe is coming up to 10 and is very arthritic so I bought her a plug in heat pad for this year so that she can keep her old bones and joints warm. That's in addition to the tubular heater and carpet in the enclosed shed end of her kennel :(|). And of course, there's always Benji to sit on her if she's feeling a bit chilled LOL.

don't have my shed pics yet, I have literally just moved them in in their CC cage at the moment, its nice though but took ages to sort and insulate! Will get some pics, I also have the heat pads that you microwave but they really haven't needed them so far as the shed is so warm :))

Ooh, I can't wait to see pics hun!

I've got an oil-filled radiator in mine too, it's brilliant. I just put in a dehumidifier as well as the humidity was more than 80% thanks to all this fog we've been having. Also, two of my girls have a fungal infection and I've heard that high humidity can cause it to hang around in the air. Fingers crossed it helps.

So glad you love your heater, they really are fab. i've just been having mine on low overnight and it makes such a difference especially with insulation too:))

Ivebeen thinking about getting one of these, does it use much oil? It's just that we always have problems with electric cuts and running out of our kerosene for our tank...grrrr

i've been looking into getting a dehumidifier too as i'm sure i've heard somewhere that high humidity increases risks of skin problems and URI. my piggies are all very healthy but i am big believer in prevention being better than cure. my shed is heated, insulated, ventilated and airy but a lot of condensation builds up over night on the windows. are there any makes you can reccomend? :)

mine is oil filled but the oil isn't burnt, it is heated by electricity, so very safe and energy efficient ... but would not be of much help in a power cut :)

I have one on now in our back room that the girls are in-it was only built last year and because it was knocked through into a small dining room there's only a small radiator in there. It's now a very long room with tiled floor and half glass roof and 2 sets of french doors so gets chilly. The oil filled radiator takes that chill off and makes it more pleasent to spend time in there with the Piggys :)

Regular dehumidifiers don't work very well in temperatures below 15C, so you will need to buy a dessicant one. They work differently and will operate efficiently down to freezing.

I only found one that seemed really suitable. It goes into standby when the target humidity is reached and then samples the air every 30 minutes to see if it has gone back up. This makes it a lot more energy efficient. It's also quite small and easy to change the water tank, plus it has a tube so you can continuously drain the water outside if you'd prefer (saves emptying the water tank every day). I got mine from here, it was one of the cheapest places online and the only one that had any stock:

It also releases warm air back into the room, so you may find you don't even need your heater on at the same time. The shed is currently 6C warmer than outside with no radiator!

The girls have had theirs in the shed for about 2 hours now and the humidity has gone down nearly 15% already.

Another OFR fan, went in the shed when I got in from work at 11, they were all stretched out enjoying the warmth of the radiator, as was next doors cat having a crafty warm. I fed them, evicted the moggy, knocked the light off and locked them up for the night. ;)

Hi there,

I thought an oil filled radiator was a sealed radiator with an element that heats the oils from inside. You don't re-fill the oil.

Silly x.

yes thats what mine is;)

Are these radiators expensive looking them up now, might get one for the piggles. :) It might take up a bit of the floor space, but hey they have a 6ft by 4ft shed to roam around in, if guinea pigs could talk I'm sure they would agree.

they are various prices, to be honest I went a bit ott with mine I bought this from amazon

but I don't think you need one this powerful, I have mone on the min settings and its toastie warm, you can get them alot cheaper but I recommend getting frost guard with it being outside :) mine has c&c around it to stop wires being chewed etc.
