But i have bought a Tarpaulin to cover the new hutch i have bought, but my question is.... do i cover the whole hutch with the tarp? and if i do will they still be able to breath etc.
I have also bought a duvet to go under the tarp in really bad weather, and the same with that really. Do i leave some of the hutch exposed etc or do i just cover the whole thing?

I know this may sound silly, but dont wanna do the wrong thing. ?/

Thanks

I dont know the answer, just bumping you up and someone who knows more will be along soon :)

My piggies are in an outside hutch and will probably be coming inside over the next few weeks as we don't have a shed or outbuilding.

I put a thick piece of carpet over the hutch and then a waterproof hutch cover over this.

Air will always get in as you are not making it airtight, just stopping the draughts.

If your are using a duvet and then a tarp make sure you remove the duvet first thing in the morning otherwise when the temperature starts to rise the inside of the hutch will get really hot.

Just to add that when I had guinea pigs in the shed over winter they had carpet over the front of the hutch, then a couple of blankets at night and they were always fine

thanks for the reply. I am unsure on weather to use a duvet or blankets or somthing else. But thanks it has put my mind at ease. I leave the house usually around 7-7.30 am ish, so would remove the duvet before i leave for work each day etc.

Thanks for putting my mind at ease. :)

Use whatever is best for you and something that is easy to wrap around the hutch, you are just looking to keep the draughts out and help insulate the bedding area.

Snuggle safe pads are also really good and you can get these in most places or online (just make sure it goes in a protective cover). I put one inside a box stuffed with hay and then the whole thing goes in their bedding area for extra warmth

:)

I ordered a snuggle safe pad the other day... it arrived yesterday so am planning on putting it in the bedding area with lots of hay. Will have a little experiment with what to use today. I also have fox shutters on the bottom 2 doors, so that will also help with the draught i hope. Thanks :)

I use tarpaulin on my rabbit. I put it all over and I cable tie to the legs so that it wont get blown off and shes fine with it :) I have been looking around for old blankets to put over the top aswell because even though the tarpaulin in water and wind proof it doesn't keep heat in
