I have been asked to go to an interview for the Primary Teaching course at Derby Uni. I have to do a short maths, english and science test and a group interview :-\ I am not looking forward to the tests at all! Its not till March so I have plenty of time to revise a bit for it! LOL

Yay - Its my 1st letter off a uni out of 6 I picked. I only sent off application at xmas.

Do you think the maths, english and science tests will be hard? - I only did my maths gcse last year so that shouldn't be too bad and I do Biology now so that should help with my science. Also what do you think the group interview will involve?

Will prob be totally different but, when i did my police assessment we were in groups. Had to get up infront of everyone and speak about ourselves. Did some 'working out' tasks as a group, trying to gather info and work together to find the answers to the questions.

I read on the internet this...

Group interview
Often group interviews are used to introduce the company and describe the job to an assembled audience of candidates. As this form of interview is not one-on-one there is not so much pressure on an individual candidate, however the aim is to stand out from the crowd and be noticed.

Tips: Ask questions speak to company personnel afterwards to establish a brief rapport.

Obviously they are talking about a job interview but I am guessing it applies to all interviews. Will just have to do my best!

I applied for a Primary PGCE when I graduated from uni. At one interview for the group part we had to each do a presentation on a subject of our choice to the group and at the second all we had to do was talk about ourselves for two minutes. It may also include a group task.

Congratulations on the interview and good luck!

good lord I think if I spoke about myself I'd bore them that much theyd be comatose after a minute

brillaint news, you lot are getting quite brainy on here, as my daughters latest phrase is GO GIRL!. you'll do fine at the tests

well done and good luck...... just believe in yourself ;) and you will do great

Well done, Ellie. Great news. I have never had a group interview and would like to keep it that way ;D

Just spoke to my friend who was on that course at Derby Uni and she said that all they had to do was sit around a table and talk to the person sitting next to them and find out as much as you could about them - you then had to introduce them and talk about them to everyone else. I did this at college on my first day so that should be fine. Also they go around the table asking why you want to do primary teaching e.t.c. - It doesn't sound too bad!

I was also told Maths & English tests were easy too!

Congratualtions! Am so happy for you!

When I had my PGCE interview I had to do English, Maths, Science and a little IT test which I found ok - they were based around school type issues like in the English one there were grammar/punctuation questions and a question where we had to respond to a newspaper article about declining behaviour in schools. The maths questions were things like working out costings for a school trip and other 'real life' type questions and basic number sentences. Science had animals/plants, forces and electricity questions I think as well as health and safety questions. The IT one was stupid as it was paper based and was on stupid things like labelling computer parts!

Good luck with it all.

WOOO GO US! thats the same for me to Ellie but mines in two weeks aaah! lol the group bit is the bit i wont like :( x
