How can they be fixed to the shelf/second level so that they don't fall down?
(if they are not bought already joined on that is)

I understand that if I use grids from a C&C cage for the shelf and a grid bent into the shape of a ramp I could attach them with cable ties. But what if the ramp is wooden or the shelf is wooden?

I am rubbish at things like this btw, as you can tell.

I have a wooden ramp and it has little hooks I put in the top - the kind you get with hooks and eyes for net curtains etc - I just made sure the hook was closed enough that it wouldnt get accidentally knocked off and popped it round the C&C grid above.

You could also drill a little hole and use cable ties I guess...

Hope this helps and if not I'm sure someone else is handier than me and will be along soon :))

I was just recapping this thread as I am ready to put a ramp in.

I was wondering what ideas people have come up with to create a ramp? I am not sure I really want to bend a grid to create one as I am not sure yet whether I will need my remaining grids to extend the cage.

I was thinking about getting one of those cat scratching planks with the scratching carpet on, but I will be afraid that my piggies might fall off as there are no sides to it.

Any other ideas? :)

I gave up trying to bend grids and have a cat scratching post, it's great as it provides good grip for the piggies (: my piggies don't fall of but do jump off before the reach the bottom occasionally rolleyes

So you recommend using the cat scratch for ramps then. That is ok then, I was worried :)

I have used a piece of B&Q square guttering for one of my ramps.
With carpet glued onto it.
Bought from B&Q

I've also used square guttering with carpet glued to the bottom for grip. My ramp is wedged between 2 sides with bits cut out to allow access to the ramp. ;)

I bought a B and Q value wooden shelf (about £3.50), drilled some holes and tied it on with velcro ties. Then I cut up a carpet tile and stuck it on. The self is the perfect length to go up a c and c level!

This is it in its test stage, pre carpet tile!

I use B&Q square guttering, and mines lined with blue carpet too!
Seems to work well for my 4 piggies.

I made mine (actually my Dad did!), with plywood. It has sides on and i have lined it with carpet tiles. I am totally useless at DIY, so if i didn't have my handy Dad to help me, I would have got the plastic guttering from B&Q.

I also use metal hooks to secure the ramp to the grid on the second floor.
