8... Can I have some opinions please.....

Fred and Marvin... Well Fred is still at it 2nd night in the cage and last night Fred had his old teeth going and they were jumping at each other no bites were inflicted on either.. then the situation died down... then round 60 began. Is this normal boy behaviour? Is Fred just telling the baby who is boss, In fairness this is nothing in relation to the first night I had to separate them yes the chatter is mild but nothing like the sheer volume on Saturday and the baby is not squealing so he can't be that scared! He just squeaks at Fred, as if to say sorry. They only seem to get on like this when I'm in the room.
Both seemed happy this morning when I got up and all was well! Is this all ok? I figure if something was going to happen it would of happened by now they've been together 3 days now... first night in the bathroom and last 2 nights in the cage! :<>

I'm new to all this forum stuff, but I am well used to the behaviour of male piggies!

I have two boys together and teeth chattering is more or less constant between them. It's the funniest thing to watch, one minute chattering and sidling up to each other, next completely forgotten about it and happily sharing from their food bowl! When they were younger and when they are in confined quarters (they have to have seperate pet carriers to visit the vet) they can get a bit physical but have never drawn blood.

I spoke to a vet about it at first, she said as long as they have seperate hidey holes and maybe seperate food bowls (just in case!) and they're are not any actual injuries they should be fine.

For all their squabbling and bickering, they always seem to end up in the same part of the hutch or run so it's just male bravado!

Well my boys have just met, on Saturday and so far I'm going grey with the stress mine don't have any hidey holes... because Fred is extremely dominant... Fred has been Rumbling, strutting, chattering lunging you name it and they only seem to do it when I'm there he is stressing me out so much! 8...!

Thankfully loads of people have gave me some fantastic advice and I have stuck with it!

I had to separate them the first night... and restart the bonding process I will not be restarting again!

Thankfully no blood has been drawn so fingers crossed!-c

Unless blood is drawn or either party is losing an incredible amount of weight sit down and watch the roller-coaster.

Boys, Boys, Boys.

This is typical boar behaviour,i have varying degrees of aggression with my boys,
it cange range from teeth chattering, bum waggling, stomping there little feet and rumbling,
there is no need to worry at the moment,
from typical fights i have seen break out usually the teeth chattering will get louder and louder and then they start stomping there front feet really hard and then the only initiating the fight will lower his bum and body in a "ready to pounce mode and then they lunge at the other pig,
That is the most common way i have seen it happen
the general rule is do not seperate until blood is drawn,a few days is not enough for boars to settle down and some pigs will continue this behaviour forever,it could also happen until they grow into adults(12 months or older)
How careful were you in picking a friend for him?
And did you introduce them on neutral ground?
these things make a difference
here are cage size requirements
http://www.guineapigcages.com/
so for a delicate pair like yours i would get a cage bigger than recommended,2 water bottles,2 hideys,2 hayracks,2 veg & 2 pellet bowls,it also helps to get them into a spacious run daily and pick some grass for them to munch on as it can distract them from tension.
here is a sticky on boar behaviour

i hope you get them sorted out x

I got the youngest boar I could find which was 10 weeks, the baby is not the problem it's my rescue piggy that is. I tried the rescue we only have one they didn't even reply to my email, when I phoned them they said they only had adults, so he couldn't pick his friend but in fairness I don't think it would have mattered!

They are in a 3ft x 1ft or so cage, I am going extend there home very shortly is this big enough for the time being?!

Did you miss all my threads... lol. I originally put them together in the bath which all was fine they were together for hours no problems cleaned the cage popped them in..... 3 hours later hell broke lose. Fred was going to kill the baby. This wasn't teeth chattering it was horrific noise I can't explain it... with the baby squealing I removed him for fear something bad would happen!

Then the next day I left them in my bathroom... Full bathroom for a day and a half, Monday they were in the cage and have been there since I've had chattering, rumbling, headbutts, lunging the works but no wounds and the baby doesn't seem as scared so sticky with it! -c

I just wish they would give me a break!

That looks great and will give them plenty of space. The sooner you can afford to buy some grids, the better. The cheapest (and quickest) are on ebay - we ordered ours from the one with the lowest postage fees. You get 17 grids in one pack, so you can build them an even bigger run, if you want to!

PS: Your boys have now bonded well. But guinea pigs certainly do emotions big time!

I can't wait to get grids the end of this month I hope they can hold out till then! I ordered the bridge today :)!

Good for you Joanne! I have C&C and even if you are just using it for a run it's so versatile and roomy for your guineas they will love it for sure!

Update!

Hiya,

Just wanted to update everyone... after much watching I am confident my boys are just being boys, and that they are not secretly waiting to kill each other. It's took me long enough. I watched them from far away enough that they were not really aware I was there or watching.

This is what they did Fred did his Rumble, proceeded to strut onto his back legs, hair up, chin in the air fur up as he approached the baby, no teeth chattering tonight, baby squeaks head butt, then Fred cleans himself situation over Round 2, same thing... continuous then Marvin & him stop for some food.

It's that time again Round one million -c
