I honestly don't know. I have seen this being done for rabbits but that doesn't mean that it is ok for piggies.

Hopefully someone comes along and knows the answer!

We put broken up ice cubes in the water bottle and they defrost throughout the day. That works quite well
Also cold straight-from-fridge cucumber is well received on a hot afternoon!
But I don't know about freezing... Wouldn't risk it tbh

I don't think it would be a wise idea personally, I'd be scared of their tongue getting stuck to the ice cubes!

I wouldn't feed them any frozen food, if you are concerned about keeping your piggies cool, definitely get a bottle of water, freeze that and then cover it with a sock or something and put into their hutch or cage. I use a thermometer on the hutch and I know what's a good temperate or not. If your hot, they will be too.
Or a ceramic tile for them to lay on also works quite well.

I do not recommend to serve any frozen veg for two reasons:
- a member had a very bad experience with a greedy piggy that badly injured its tongue (froze to the veg)
- as the veg defrosts, bacteria multiply very quickly and can cause illness if not everything is eaten while frozen.

Please rather make sure that your piggies have fresh water at all times, and that you cool the air around them if possible. if you wish, wipe their ears with a cool (but not cold) rag; that is where piggies regulate their body temperature (blood flow).

Would a sock covering a frozen bottle of water be dangerous though in the hutch what if peanut chews the sock?

I don't think that the sock will be frozen solid. Hang the bottle fairly high so that Peanut Butter has to stand on her back legs if that is possible.

I was just confused as I was watching utube and they show the guinea pigs eating frozen ice with fruit and veg in

I would never give an animal anything that's frozen. Cold water and cold veg from the fridge is fine, but their little guts can't take freezing temps and it can be fatal. If you were to jump in a frozen lake, your body would seize up and you wouldn't be able to move. That's what happens to an animals insides when given frozen food or ice water. It's like instant bloat. Scary stuff.
One of my friends is a vet and she's put out a warning after losing a doggy patient after her owner gave her ice in water. Really sad, because I love nothing more than and ice lolly in this weather!

Think I'll stick with the bottle of water freeze it and cover with a sock seems more safe

Unfortunately a lot of people do a lot of things on youTube, and much of it can be wrong or downright dangerous. I would never rely on it for advice. Having read a lot recently about dogs dying from drinking ice water I would never give any of my pets ice.

Tie a knot on the end of the sock as piggys don't try to get into the sock. I use 2 thick socks ( sport socks) so piggys don't get frost bite

Don't forget you can also buy ice pods from pet stores, or online which are very safe and take less room in the freezer.
May have a look when I'm in pets at home on Tuesday for ice pod that sounds a good idea for peanut

I put a ceramic tile in my piggies cage...For when they got hot.
They use it as a loo :lol!:
